Adios Boris

Sinclair finally realizes that their horribly produced commentaries were a H*** mistake:

Now they can save the reported $300,000 salary they were paying Boris.

However with Chairman David Smith in charge, expect to still see conservative leaning “must run news stories” still being forced into 25:66’s “newscasts”.

Adios Boris (whisper: and Ameshia)

Post by kager » Thu Dec 12, 2019 5:44 am

You see buried in that NBCOoze article that Ameshia Cross is being dropped, too.

"It was irresponsible and antithetical to what we were supposed to be doing as journalists.” the former Sinclair producer said. “It is surprising, but for the most part, I think our viewers were able to see commentary for what it was.”

"The problem with communication is the illusion that it has occurred."

Not sure about your obsession with Bill Harris... since this post has nothing to do with him.

No one at NBC 25 and Fox 66 wanted to run these commentaries by Boris and Ameshia. They were forced upon our viewers by Sinclair’s VP of “News” Scott Livingston.

Reporters complained to management who basically wiped their hands of it and said there was nothing they could do about it. The GM did not support journalists actually wanting to put on a good newscast... only to be told to put pro-Trump propaganda into local news. That’s what you get when you have the sales department run the news department , It’s also why Fox/NBC will remain the bottom feeder in the Flint market.

Here’s the “spin” memo sent to stations... notice how Scott Livingston has to work very hard not to admit that these commentaries were a mistake!

Subject: Local Investigative Commitment

Hi Everyone,

One of our goals in 2020 is to produce more distinctive and impactful local stories. We are having success in the markets where we’re producing local investigative content. Sinclair’s local investigative news teams have produced marquee coverage and garnered critical praise for stories like the award-winning Project Baltimore, which unveiled systemic issues with the local school systems, and Project Seattle that explored the impact of homelessness and drug addiction plaguing their community. Our local investigative commitment has garnered nationwide accolades marked by numerous national and regional Edward R. Murrow and Emmy Awards.

Our local investigative units are invaluable to the communities we serve. The positive feedback and our ratings improvement echoes the public’s increasing desire for in-depth, watchdog accountability stories that impact local communities. We have to shine a light on our value proposition every quarter hour, in every newscast. Therefore we will be expanding our local investigative journalism footprint in our daily newscasts. We are excited to dedicate more time in our newscasts to report on critical and relevant issues.

To allot additional airtime for this storytelling, we will be ending the commentary segments this Friday, December 13th featuring Ameshia Cross and Boris Epshteyn. I want to thank Boris and Ameshia for sharing their passion and purpose with our audiences.

We want to continue to be a leader in local news and strengthen our commitment to investing in local communities.

Thanks,
Scott

Would love to know how NBC/Fox 66 plans to provide significant investigative reporting when they continue to cut staff.

Bueller... Bueller?

The news team can’t even cover daily news with current staffing. Maybe Scott Livingston should visit Flint.

Local news should have no bias — either from the left or the right. Local journalism is dead because those in charge choose to side with partisan philosophies or sell out the news department to local advertisers as opposed to insisting on upholding ethical and responsible reporting.

Most of the commentary was aired in the morning news when Boris promos came on said mornings on WWMT at the 5AM hour and then on at 10PM news on CW7 I never saw the commentary. Which means James Rosen reports on the Sinclair stations.

Yes, so now Sinclair is replacing mouth full of marbles Boris and his commentary segments with... commentaries framed as news stories from former FOX News conservative commentator James Rosen. Good journalists know not to make themselves the story. Jimmy needs to go back to journalism school since he clearly missed that lesson.

Report the news. We don’t need local newscasts with spin — either from the left or the right. Just give me the facts and let viewers decide who to believe.

Baiting your interviews with biased questions so you can get a heated exchange that will be played over and over on political talk shows just makes Rosen look like a self-involved idiot.
