No January Ratings Yet

Post by Greg Buben » Thu Mar 02, 2023 11:55 am

I know that we have seen both holiday and January ratings on line for the major markets such as Chicago and Detroit.
Here it's March already and the last G.R. ratings were the December ones. The ratings for G.R. usually come out each month
but at a later date than Chicago and Detroit. I wonder why the January ratings didn't come out sometime in February and
if they'll come out sometime in March. Now I'm curious if we'll see the February ratings and when in March to look for them.

This website will show you when the ratings will be released.

https://www.arbitron.com/home/delivsched.asp

Typically, due to February being a shorter month, some markets, which have a release roughly every 30 days, will not have a release during the month, but it may slide into early March. Grand Rapids is one of these markets...

A very good book for Country and for Christian AC. Blunder is actually showing some signs of life for once.

A dip for WOOD AM & FM, ultra boring WGRD's performance continues to surprise me, and ghetto music on 104.9 seems to be struggling.

How is WGVU-AM still registering ratings?

It's a diary market, and other than for a brief time when the station was off the air completely, it's been operating under STA with 100 watts.

My guess is a fan of Real Oldies 1480 is still writing the station's name in diary entries. The call letters are now WSLI. I believe it may be airing the same programming as 90.9 FM, but I am unsure.

1480 has only been back on the air since January 7, 2023. It Was off the air for exactly one year. My guess is the people are writing in WGVU-AM when the are actually listening to the FM. If I recall correctly 1480 is simulcasting with 99.9.

Who gets credit if a diary participant enters "WGVU" with no frequency or suffix?

probably the FM. I believed for all the years I worked there, that the FM got credit for listeners that were really listening to Real Oldies. Might be just my prejudice however. : )

I'm glad to see that the ratings for Grand Rapids in January have been released on line. The top two in this book are
most impressive not only because they dominate over all others but because B-93 went up from a 7.5% share to an
8.5% share and WCSG went from a 6.3% share to an 8.0% share. The third station WGRD did gain slightly up from a 5.8%
share to a 6.1% share and for a commercial active rock station they cover rock from the newest all the way back to the
most significant rock of the late 60's. I can't say I like all that WGRD offers but they seem to have a sense of what still
is viable to mix together as a station that can appeal to a wide audience ranging from teens to old hippies in their 70's
and 80's. Another thing that helps WGRD is they have a popular morning show although I personally don't care for it.
I noticed that the 4th station WSNX dropped from a 7.0% share to a 6.1% but they certainly are much better than
their competition Hot FM that only got a 2.4% share. I-Heart also had WOOD in number five with a 4.9% share so again
out of the top five stations I-Heart dominates the market with B-93, WSNX, and WOOD.

A thought... could the numbers for "WGVU-AM" coming from the 95.3 translator, which used to relay Real Oldies?

Lori Bennett is currently working without a contract and pursuing other opportunities. It's shocking that anyone would even consider her for a janitorial position based on those numbers.
