106.9 WOOD FM

Post by MWmetalhead » Sat Aug 28, 2021 3:13 pm

They are definitely broadcasting at reduced power. Terrible reception in Ionia County. Along M-6 corridor, signal is only a little better than WMRR.

Agreed MWmetalhead.

My home location is far enough east along M-57 that the auxiliary FM in use now breaks up too much for listening since the lightning strike they had until I’m a few miles further west.

Also noticeable is that the HD decoding is gone (in the one car I have with that technology), and the current FM is an exactly timed simulcast as their AM. Likely because FM isn’t needing time to be encoded for HD—FM will be lagging again by ~3 seconds once HD is back. (Important when calling in for contests!)

Cheers! ~~ Statmanmi

I had no RDS, either. Definitely using "spare parts" to transmit the signal. I wonder when things will return to normal?

106.9 WOOD-FM interferes with 106.9 W295CL (WKZO) in western Kzoo county. Since WOOD had been on reduced power, reception of KZO is much better in that area.

Yup, no RDS or HD/IBOC in their local coverage area since lightning fried their transmitter. They came on after a few days without the extras. It's easy to hear WPPN and WFON here in Fremont on their adjacents nowadays. I'm liking it. No reason for WOOD to bother with HD for a lousy talk radio station. If it were a real news station as they kinda advertise it as, okay... but it's just conservative talk. You can hear that crappy format anywhere these days (not even basing it on political leanings, but just the general talk shows that everyone else carries).
