December Nielsen #'s for G.R. - worst book in nearly 30 years for WSNX!

Gen Z and millennial listeners simply don't use radio very often for music when they are not commuting, unless they are listening to their favorite morning show.

I cannot remember the last time WSNX was in the upper 3's in ages 12+! I want to say it was in the early 90's, when the station was still based in Muskegon and known as 104.5 Sunny FM. They've had a number of surveys where they finished in the 4's in the past 20 years, but I'm pretty certain they've previously never failed to crack a 4 share during that time. Wow.

Other highlights:
- Newsradio WOOD edges out B93 for top honors;
- Michigan Radio WVGR remains near record high levels;
- Christmas music helped both Star 105.7 (who saw a nice surge) and 100.5 The River;
- WFGR is doing well once again; sister station WLHT saw one of its worst books of the past decade;
- Big 101.3 is getting tiny ratings;
- Thunder 107.3 remains an abject dumpster fire. The combined share of 94.5 & 107.3 is substantially lower now than it was prior to the format changes.
- ESPN 96.1's ratings are also in the dirt, but Thunder 107.3's performance (given its very mainstream music format) is the most embarrassing of the bunch.
- No one is listening to the Ticket.

I do wonder if "Real Oldies 1480 and 850" WGVU-AM's 1.1 is a high-water mark, since they took up this presentation what, 12 years ago.

I listen to it, as it fits my demographic and I find more songs I want to hear there, versus "The Q" or rimshot classic hit signals. If I am trying to find the Spartans, I would tune in "Big 101.3," but was not there to seek and stay with its music.

Newsradio WOOD AM/FM is something of a misnomer, as there's a negligible amount of content gathering going on there, mostly a dispensation of network sources and WOOD-TV audio repackaging.

The 3 music stations Lite, SNX, and Hot are definitely struggling. SNX has lost its identity, Hot never had an identity, and Lite is caught in a bad music cycle in which they don’t “own” any records. Flipping around to all 3 stations and hearing the same Justin Bieber song in a quarter-hour is tiring for the average listener, especially when the content between the records is either weak or non existent. Listeners are turned off...literally.

The 1.1 that Real Oldies got this time around is not the highest ever or for even the past year. Real Oldies had a 1.6 followed by a 1.3, then a 1.1 in I believe May, June and July of 2020. The highest ratings ever for Real Oldies was a 2 share back in 2015. Not really mixing it up with the Big Boys, but fairly decent numbers for an AM only music station.

Real Oldies is also now on 95.3 in GR too. Sounds good - should only help!

Not surprising about Mich Radio. It's a full service station with LIVE bodies and real news from 5AM-8PM. Makes a difference.

Another stellar performance for the Cumeless stations. What a joke.

At least 101.3 sounds better than it did before, 106.1 is tied with a peashooter classic hits station that barely comes into kent county, :lol :lol also hilarious 105.3 is tied with a rap station.

94.5 remains steady.

The Ticket is also tied with:
- WTKG, an AM-only radio station with no translator
- Lansing's NPR member station that barely gets into Kent County

WLCS has a decent signal in parts of Ottawa County, which is in the market.

These are long term moves, you can't expect results after just two years. This is part of a long term plan to dominate Grand Rapids.

Gee - the plan seems to be working great so far! (Your country brand withered from a 4.1 share to a 1.1 share.)

A continuous loop of dog farts on a 50 kW signal can probably fetch a 1.1 share.

Even the abortion known as Young Country 96 earned better numbers than that, and they had three other country signals with which to compete for ears (B93, WCUZ and WMUS).

There's got to be some type of housecleaning at Cumulus soon, right? There were already rumors they were courting a new OM pre-covid and this may be one of their worst collective books in history. Are they waiting until things return to some normalcy to finally pull the trigger?
