Nielsen ratings are in for Winter (Grand Rapids, ages 12+)

Post by MWmetalhead » Fri Apr 26, 2019 6:02 pm

It appears broadcasting at a reduced power & antenna height is eating into WLAV's ratings.

Their 4.7 share is the weakest I can remember for a winter book in quite some time.

The biggest news? The market has a new #1 station - none other than WOOD AM & FM!!! Their numbers skyrocketed to an 8.7 share.

Other notables:
- Outstanding book for 91.3 WCSG
- Not so good book for WLHT
- It's difficult if not impossible to sort out the WBBL / WTNR / WKLQ mess. Nielsen sucks!
- Yet another horrible book for 101.3 The Brew and a surprisingly bad book for 98.7 WFGR.

I've heard more commercials for the Q lately, if it last the end of the year, I can garner it will reach a 2.0 at most.
Magic 104.9 is very close to 105.3 Snot FM, The next book It will probably hit 3.5, 105.3 will go down to a 2.8 or 2.9
WOOD will be transmitted on 101.3 given their winning streak by as early as this summer.

Given WOOD's already massive ratings, why change something that isn't broken?

There's no way a replacement format on 106.9 MHz would be able to perform as well in the G.R. market as WOOD-FM does.

Not to mention - 101.3's 54 dBu contour encroaches into western portions of the Lansing market, which could lead to contractual difficulties regarding certain programming.

Remember, one of the reasons 106.9 MHz was chosen to simulcast WOOD 1300 is because 1300's signal is terrible along the lakeshore. 106.9 smothers the lakeshore with a strong signal whereas 101.3's signal is a bit iffy there.

I do agree that 101.3 needs to try something dramatically different. The Putrid Crap - errr Premium Choice - playlist they are using is absolute garbage. I've never seen such a poorly constructed rock radio playlist in my entire life!!!

Didn't think of that, maybe adult hits like what 106.7 was briefly or like Previous Max FM on 96.1 would work.
Left's hope they don't something even stupider like simulcast WTKG on it.

While there aren't too many Christian CHR stations that openly report ratings, through the top 75 radio markets in the United States WCSG has the highest share of any Christian station... an incredibly impressive feat!
