WKZO morning host Wayne Powers out after four months

Post by Michigan Media » Fri Feb 13, 2015 6:16 pm

Radio personality Wayne Powers, who was named the new host of the WKZO-AM (590) morning show in October, is no longer with the station.

He said that after Thursday morning's show, he met with station management over his contract and his duties, and at the end of the meeting he was asked to empty his desk and was escorted out of the building.

"It was a contract dispute. Basically, that's what it worked out to," said Powers, 64. Powers moved to Kalamazoo and took over the 6 a to 10 a.m. morning slot on Oct. 13. His talk show covered local news, as well as other topics, including stories from his career in the entertainment world.

He said he worked 70 hours a week on the show and was asked to pick up more duties, which he felt were not reasonable.

Wow, is this classic radio in 2015 or what? Guy moves to take a job, and gets blown out after 4 months because he didn't want to work 80 hours hours a week and be paid for a regular work week. The "Brand Manager" has no statement other than "He's no longer with the company". Classless corporate radio bullshit on all levels. I don't know the whole story, but I personally salute Mr Powers for walking. No regard for listeners or human being. Real Classy Midwest.

Just an incredibly H*** implosion over at 4200 West Main in recent years.. pretty much since Fairfield sold them. It's unbelievable what's going on there. For it to finally get to the point for Lori to really quit... Wayne out after 4 months, a news staff that's down to what, 2 people in that building (in the late 1990s, the news staff was 6 people), and I'm told there aren't any many, if any, sales people that actually work out of that office any longer. Sad.

As a listener I am glad he is gone. He did nothing, he over talk his guest, all his guest were not local, the first 30 mins all he did was laugh at himself and play some sort of music that he likes. I like to see what the morning rating were with him on those 4 months? I hope they bring Jim back. He was the best guy for morning when Lori Moore retired.

Is this normal to sign a 4 month contract or were they reviewing his progress and notice he was not doing his part?

Guy gets to write 18 paragraphs on mlive to explain the injustice of it all after 16 weeks in town? Spare me.
