Fox 17 News at Eleven?

Post by dwp49423 » Wed May 21, 2014 8:40 pm

Just saw a Facebook link on the WXMI Fox 17 Facebook page that says News at 11 starts June 2. The tagline is a play on the tag line they used to launch News At Ten "At Ten Its News At Eleven Its History. We Changed Our Minds"

Are they moving to a ninety minute or two hour evening newscast? Either way looks like the trainwreck of Arsenio Hall Show will soon be over.

It looks like Arsenio will be pushed back a half hour to 11:30. Here are some promos for 11pm newscast:

Would sure love to know how well (or poorly) Fox 17's existing news effort fares in the ratings.

Last time I saw data on their 10p show, the numbers had dropped quite a bit from their peak of a number of years ago.

Haven't seen any data on their morning, 5p or 6p newscasts in ages. I suspect they rank a distant fourth place, behind WOOD, WWMT and even WZZM.

A lot of FOX affiliates have added newscasts at 11p (10p in the central time zone) in recent years. A lot of FOX's O&O's now air late news alongside NBC, CBS and ABC-affiliated stations.

One last note to WXMI: 1998 called! It wants its ugly video wall with the big-ass bezel back! :lol
If you are going to try to copy channel 8, at least try to do so in a manner that doesn't come across as low budget and half-assed.

MEMO TO 89-EX: FIX YOUR SHITTY SOUNDING AUDIO!! WE CAN HARDLY HEAR THE FRIGGIN' STATION! Thanks in advance.

I saw the ad's during American Idol Finale last night Anne Marie & Mitch will be anchoring the 11 News cast. Also looks like in the fall that Fox 17 will have a newscast at 4 in the afternoon no date was given when that will start from M-Live.

No way this market can support that much news. It won't be local content. It's simply cheaper to offer more avails this way. Eeesh

A 4pm newscast (assuming it will be an hour) means 8.5 hours of news a day! The repetitiveness reminds me of the original concept behind CNN Headline News or Satellite News Channel (an ABC/Group W venture that Ted Turner later bought just to shut down and remove a competitor from CNN HN)

The News at 11 concept is described as "fast paced". Wondering if they will try something like News 3's "Seven @ 11" from the early 90s.

I have seen a lot of FOX stations do a 11 news. However, from what I have seen, they have the same news, weather, and sports people that do the 10 also do the 11.
I'm not sure I understand having a new team against the established 11 news stations.
Anyone?

First, for stations that air an 11pm newscasts that time offers the most ratings then any other newscast during the day... because there's more TVs turned on. Second, a newscast allows a station to keep all the ad time than some syndicated show would.

Most viewers are going to watch either a 10pm newscast or an 11pm one but, not both. So, you might as well have a piece of the 11pm news pie.
And for the few that watch both a 10 and 11 a station might as well try to keep those viewers tuned in at 11pm.

Actually not true. Viewing levels at 11PM are down compared to 10PM. This market doesn't have much television viewing after 11:30pm. This is an early to rise and early to bed market.

OK then prove it.
Post a source link with some ratings that makes my post untrue.

I'm talking specifically about the 11pm newscasts not all of primetime (nor 11:30pm).
Stations that air an 11pm show can see their highest news ratings at 11pm.
The only other daypart out of primetime that can rival that is 6pm.
So if there is still a lot of news viewing going on at 11pm why would a station continue to ignore 11pm to air a newscast.

The fact that a fourth station in the market wants a piece of the 11pm audiance actually says it is true.
