Dave Benson leaving?
Re: Dave Benson leaving?
He's staying in the building for an as yet unnamed morning gig. Perhaps RKR?

Dave Benson leaving?
Benson is indeed headed to the AM shift on RKR starting Monday. Curious, though, if he is assuming PD duties as well? He is PD of WKMI, but that’s pretty much a title on an automated news talker.

Only thing left to wonder is which lame ass, canned, air talent kid; syndicated and broadcasting on 50 radio stations from his/her bathroom in Duluth, Townsquare will add to his/her list of markets and stations they don’t give a shit about. Their instructions will be to just make sure you don’t say Kellogg’s is in K-Zoo.
On a side note, following Benson at KFR is like following Tom Brady in New England. You’re fucked.

They really don't have much competition, though. COMPLETELY AGREE that anyone who succeeds him is likely to be a major downgrade in the talent department, but it's not as if those listeners are suddenly going to change station allegiances en masse.
The Kalamazoo radio market is lame...lame...lame. The playlists on WRKR and WKFR are incredibly safe & sanitized, WQXC plays music for old geezers, WZUU plays music for hillbillies and trailer dwellers, WVFM has had an identity crisis for about a decade, Win 98.5 ain't bad (not the best signal in K'zoo, though), 102.5 ain't bad, 96.5 ain't bad, and WKZO's programming has gotten progressively worse as the years have passed and is a shadow of its former self.

Re: Dave Benson leaving?
Dave Benson has been doing the PM drive like forever on WKFR at least for 30 years since the '90s surprised that he is going back to the mornings on RKR. I agree with MWmetalhead about WVFM hardly listen to it.

Re: Dave Benson leaving?
Is MWC going to attempt to take advantage of the personnel change at TSQ by flipping 96.5 to CHR/Pop (might be an OK move despite the recent failed attempt at such a format in Lansing) or Hot AC (a stupid move)?
I know I dissed 106.5 for having an identity crisis, but gee, I sure didn't expect an outright flip to Jack FM!
Looks like the flip happened shortly after 5AM this morning.
Personally, I think the most likely outcome is an AM 590 simulcast on 96.5 FM. MWC recently made a similar move in one of its markets in the Dakotas.

Either the KZO/FM simulcast or.....Sports. They blew up 1660 and now theres no sports in the market...correct?

Re: Dave Benson leaving?
True but for spillover of 96.1 FM from the GR market.
National sports programming can be heard on Sirius XM and fills daytime TV programming on cable.
I personally think a flip of 96.5 to sports would be a mistake.
Jack skews rock. Don't they need to have at least one female friendly format on the local FM dial, not counting B.C. focused 98.5?

MWC flipping 96.5 to CHR at this point would be a total waste of time and 15 years too late.

Re: Dave Benson leaving?
Given how quickly millennial and Gen Z audiences are abandoning FM radio, I am inclined to agree. Although not as evident in diary markets, in PPM markets, CHR/Pop format share is horrendously weak right now.
