Mi GOP House Speaker Guilty for bribery

More from the legislative swamp... If I recall, Audiophile was a fan of this guy.
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) — The former head of a Michigan marijuana licensing board pleaded guilty to bribery Tuesday, acknowledging he accepted at least $110,000 in exchange for approving applications for the lucrative business.

Rick Johnson's appearance in federal court in Grand Rapids was a remarkable fall. Years ago he was a powerful state lawmaker, serving as speaker of the Republican-controlled House from 2001 through 2004.

The investigation so far has centered on corruption at the marijuana board before it was disbanded in 2019. The board reviewed and approved applications to grow and sell marijuana for medical purposes.

A Detroit-area businessman, John Dalaly, pleaded guilty last week. He said he provided at least $68,200 in cash and other benefits to Johnson, including two private flights to Canada.

Johnson, 70, answered a series of questions from the judge during the hourlong hearing but wasn't asked to explain his motive for taking bribes. Johnson and defense lawyer Nick Dondzila declined to comment outside court.

Very misleading - this happened a decade and a half AFTER he was speaker.
Voting for Trump is dumber than playing Russian Roulette with fully loaded chambers.

Are you suggesting this guy was a choir boy when he was speaker of the house?

And it was Rick Snyder who appointed him , keeping it in the family.

What's with this? this has happened at least in a handful of states, where the speaker of the house(or former) is found guilty of bribery or a similar crime. Alabama, Ohio, and New York State come to mind. The first 2 are Republicans and the guy in NY was a Democrat. The guy in Alabama went to prison I think, Ohio case is still going (but former speaker Householder will likely go to prison for awhile), and in NY the guy died in prison actually. His name was Sheldon Silver.

Folks get that power and when they live in a super safe district, they know they have no chance of losing and they rise through the ranks, they think they are untouchable. Then it all comes crashing down. You know, you'd think these politicians would actually think twice and see what's happened to others, before possibly committing a crime. That's what happens when you get such a lust power and it's garbage in, garbage out.

The title is akin to the tRumpanzees that use the phrase "President tRump" when it is, in fact, "FORMER President tRump"

What? There were dirty deals being made on pot particulars in the crime-free state of MI? Unbelievable (that anyone remembers).

Certainly that has stopped now.

The title was written by a repetitiously hypocritical far-left-leaning race-baiting bigot.

And - like it or not - referring to a former US president as "President Last Name" after they leave office has nothing to do with that cute little monkey moniker, or the person you are so fond of, or whether D or R, or day or night.

Technically correct or not, it is a tradition for many that has been around longer than you or I...

Usually they say “Former President Last Name” after he’s… you know… formerly the president and now… well… not.

The ones that don’t are incorrect. The ones talking about Trump generally feel he legitimately won and had it stolen. In their minds he IS the president. The reason he still gets plain president before his name are different than for the others. But the English language is pretty clear on how this works. Have a nice day.
