I completely understand how someone that lives in a segregated community would have a hard time wrapping his head around this issue.

I don't hate an entire race of people, and that has nothing to do with my address. You, however, are the poster child for white flight.

The best kept "secret" in Michigan is why white people move up north. The more you protest and point fingers the more obvious it becomes what you really are.

I move here from Colorado. I had never been here before. And those who move North to avoid people tend to be in the middle of the state. Traverse City actively encourages migrants, has the largest Pride week in the Midwest and has a human rights commission. We aren't akin to the white flight in the rural North.

Even the rich need somewhere to boat and ski.

And that's a point worth discussing. There is economic segregation vs ethnic segregation.

There are parts of Detroit that are very ethnicity diverse yet economically segregated. These communities tend to be first generation wealth (not many trust fund types) and there is a strong (almost too strong) work ethic. Segregation of any type is wrong in my opinion, but this is much different than racism.

Here in Traverse City, we have the socio economics of about Brighton. There is plenty of rural poverty, but we lack the racial diversity, because it's very hard to be a self made success here compared to a city.

People who move here these days (not when I moved here over 20 years ago) are mostly retired. We are the fastest growing retirement community in the state. So I can say we do have some wealth but it's not from wages. There is plenty of boating, but these people don't tend to be skiers. My lake is jammed these days with pontoon boats.

These are all social gatherings by established student life groups. The white supremacists are too stupid to actually attend college, but they will have a "graduation" in the lawn maintenance shed. I hear Bryce if delivering their commencement speech on a zero turn.

They will need shovels for the holes they are digging for themselves ahead of 2024.
