Who's going to do the work?

Post by km1125 » Thu Oct 07, 2021 3:30 pm

They're been pushing the 1.5 Trillion "infrastructure" package. If it got passed, then that would probably mean somewhere around 30 BILLION would be allocated to Michigan for things like roads and bridges and water upgrades.

Who's going to be doing all that work?? Road construction companies are slammed as it is just keeping up with what we have, and they can't hire enough people for that, especially right now. So, where is this money going to be spent and where are the resources coming from that will complete the work?

Here's what I surmise is going to happen. All the contractors are still going to bid and get awarded all the work.
And then the contractors are going to do one of two things:

1. Go and rent and put up all the barricades for all the jobs, and block off roads and lanes right away. And then rotate the crews around to the different sites. You'll see beautiful summer days with no one working because the contractor's crew is on one of the other jobs that they bid on and got awarded.
-- or ---
2. Every job will have bodies every day, but they're won't be a half dozen people at every site.

Either way, no matter how large or how you small the project is, it's going to take from first thaw to first frost to Get-R-Done.

Maybe the 700K thousand who died could have helped, but your party let them die by lax COVID preparation.

They/them, non-binary and proud.

The right needs to stop worry about what’s between people’s legs. Instead, they should focus on what’s between their ears.

Some of those jobs could go to the natives of Afghanistan that supposedly are coming or have come to Michigan. Also, some of the undocumented that Biden and Border Czar Harris let pour in, could certainly be used as labor for those projects.

Don't forget to give credit to Gov. Whitmer on the assists to death due to Covid. Although, I highly doubt that those people would have been applying for these jobs as they were in nursing homes when they met their untimely deaths while the Queen was overseeing her executive orders.

Haitians. Don't forget the Haitians. How long before places that start employing the Haitians sneaking across the border get pounced on by the left for paying "slave wages?"

New York and Chicago were all in with respect to their sanctuary status — until they were hit with the challenge of actually providing sanctuary. In other words, typical liberal hypocrisy.

Ok, I just ran some quick numbers. If we count all the Afghans and the Haitians, and figure we have to pay prevailing wages now. I'm guessing that's about $70K for the starting wage for road workers. If that's in the ballpark then we have enough to pay for 412,000 man-years of labor.

We're going to need a lot more Afghans and Haitians!! Hopefully they do good work.
