Health director fired? (Robert Gordon MiDHHS out)

What's more pathetic: harassing an old man who is paying to do a radio show or supporting a grifter like Trump?

Proving once again that it's not what you know, it's who you know.

Pretty eye-opening that our state health department is run by people with as much actual real-world health training as LL and Bidet.

Hey Michigan news-media types ... wouldn't this be an interesting expose for your station / publication? Health decisions in Michigan during the worst pandemic in a century are not ultimately the responsibility of actual medical doctors, but rather by political appointees with no actual medical backgrounds?

He is being replaced by a deputy....

Honestly, the distribution of vaccine has been a mess as I have stated in another discussion.
“Today, I am resigning from the Whitmer Administration,” Gordon tweeted at 2:52 p.m. Friday. “It’s been an honor to serve alongside wonderful colleagues. I look forward to the next chapter.”

UPDATE: Elizabeth Hertel named new Michigan health director, Gov. Whitmer announces

Gordon and Chief Medical Executive Dr. Joneigh Khaldun have been the faces of MDHHS throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Gordon has often been present at Whitmer’s briefings and most recently participated in a virtual update Tuesday.

Most notably, Gordon has helped make recent announcements about MDHHS restrictions designed to slow the spread of COVID-19. The department issued a “pause” in mid-November, and it has been extended and revised several times, including Friday morning .

Gordon stood by the science of the restrictions throughout his tenure, saying COVID-19 is most likely to spread in settings such as restaurants, where people from different households gather indoors and remove their masks to eat.
Whitmer replaced him with the wife of a State Senator....
Elizabeth Hertel has been selected as his replacement, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced.

Hertel currently serves as the senior chief deputy director for administration for MDHHS.

Our news outlets are so f*cking lazy when it comes to asking probing questions.

You raise a great point regarding vaccine distribution issues, TC Talks. None of the journalists who work for the mainstream media in the Detroit have thought to ask about or even mention that.

The issue, of course, that immediately popped into my head was the nursing home death scandal.

Right on!

Vaccine distribution has been just begging for some investigative reporting, but the media has cut back so much, there's nobody left to do the hard work!!

I think Whitmer wanted restaurants opened, but science didn't support the decision and he quit.

Most of the opens and closings have been within 24 hours, this announcement give restaurants more that a week.

He is not a scientist. He's a paper shuffling political pawn.

There is no good science on what restaurants contribute to the spread. There's only guesses (aka junk science). Impossible to claim science in a setting where there are literally no control groups and about 1.727 million variables involved.

Look at our spread, it's down.

The facts NEVER supported the November shutdown.

Undeniably. Why? None of us can answer that with any certainty.

Maybe mask wearing compliance has increased.

Maybe people stopped getting together privately outside and inside.

Maybe workers that had resumed in-person activities cut back again.

Maybe restaurants and bars being closed helped.

Maybe putting high schools all remote helped.

Maybe getting some healthcare workers vaccinated helped.

Maybe getting some folks age 65+ vaccinated helped.

Nobody knows for sure. Probably all of this helped.

Who knows why his departure was so abrupt. Not you for sure.

There is significant data that bars which do not encourage staying seated had measurable spread.

Ok. Thus the 10 PM curfew.

You've successfully weakened your own point. Congrats

What point?

You are right: we don't know how spread works very well. But reducing the number of people in a room longer than 10 minutes unquestionably decreases risks. Restaurants: 45 minutes, no mask, lots of talking, various sizes rooms, not good.

The point that Gordon quit over science. You have absolutely no clue what happened.

Do all of the orders he signed become invalid?
