Re: Beaverton Bans Cell Phones
How about rather than continuing to hand over our rights, why don’t we respect each other’s worth?
Rather than make arbitrary rules about using cell phones, putting on makeup in the car, and other silly ideas, how about actually hold people responsible for harming others?
Oh, but you all feel better if we can ban smoking completely on planet earth, ban cell phone use altogether, and ban certain vape flavors.
It’s all theater. You think you’re safer with more laws, but you are not. Let’s not prosecute someone who uses their cell phone, speeds, or does anything that doesn’t hurt others. Let’s prosecute those who actually harm others, like cops.

That’s where you’re 100% wrong.craig11152 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 26, 2019 5:36 pmDistracted driving isn't a right. Indeed driving a car not distracted isn't a right. It's a privilege.
One cannot give up a "right" that doesn't exist.
If the ability to travel unmolested is not a right, who do you ask permission for to travel? If it’s a public road, you ask nobody for permission. What are the requirements to be on public land? NONE! Same for roads.
Who grants the “privilege” for me to travel anywhere I want on public roads?
Distracted driving, distracted scuba diving, distracted skydiving...as long as I’m not hurting anybody, it’s not a crime!
You want to give people the power to arrest, detain, and imprison because you think they “might” cause harm. Ridiculous. You might cause harm undistracted. Should someone be arrested for that?

Wrong again, bucko.bmw wrote: ↑Sun Oct 27, 2019 9:09 amTraveling is a right. Driving a motorized vehicle is a privilege.
Go driving a car down a public road, without a drivers' license, without car insurance, at 100 MPH, and let me know how that works out for you when you get pulled over, even if you don't hurt anybody in the process.
When did freedom become a “privilege”?
Who gets to tell me what mode of transportation I get to use? ME!
Just because cops arrest people for stuff doesn’t mean that stuff is wrong. See “snow littering” and “warming up your own car in your own driveway.”
