"7News Detroit" sounds sterile and generic to me.
Morgan Wallen is a piece of garbage.

Interestingly Bill Bonds would often say “Channel 7 News has learned…” or something like that so they aren’t exactly reinventing the wheel. I don’t like having the Detroit name in every mention of what is happening though… would “7 News” or “Channel 7 News” work any better without Detroit flung about every 5 seconds?

There was nothing wrong with "Action News."
"7 News" does sound cleaner than "7 News Detroit "

From what I understand they have to pay a royalty to the company that owns the trademark for Action News in order to use it and that’s probably the culprit.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2024 11:41 amThere was nothing wrong with "Action News."

Ah, did not realize they had to pay licensing fees for that brand name.
If that is indeed the case, I agree completely that's the reason it was tossed aside.

The Circle's product really hasn't been true to the tight Action News format for quiet some time, but the trademark comments piqued my curiosity. According to the "Action News" article on Wikipedia - which may or may not be entirely accurate, of course - the trademarked name is owned by Cox Enterprises (part of the Cox Media Group family). Of the dozen-ish stations they own around the country, a few actually brand as "Action News," while a few others use the competing "Eyewitness News" format name.

It’s weird seeing the Action News brand gone. Not a fan of ‘7 News Detroit.’ As long as they don’t get rid of the 62 year old circle 7, I’m good.
