Re: Rock wars 1987
That sample music hour from WRIF is truly awful!
Not terribly impressed by WLLZ's sample hour, either, but at least it was more musically adventurous (for the era) than WRIF and not as sleepy or sappy texturally.
Thank God the Z-Rock network came around to finally give hard rock and metal fans a place to hear *their* music without having to endure a bunch of friggin' hippie music and yacht rock.

PS yeah AOR/rock radio in the late 80s was terrible and hasn't improved much over the years.
Edit: "The Finer Things" by Steve Winwood wins that music sweep.

Z-Rock was the ultimate rock station. There was a short time that Z-Rock had surpassed WRIF in the ratings.

I cleared the cache, Mega. You may need to go into the user control panel to reconfigure your display preferences.
On my device, everything displays exactly the same as before.

No, I actually like it. Looks a little fancier.
Anyway, I took a better look at those playlists. Fucking CCR and Grateful Dead in 1987. What a joke. Thank God for Z Rock and 89x. Those playlists weren't much different in the early 90s, either.

I was at WCSX during the "War". There was some pretty hilarious things that happened. It has been going on for a few years.
My favorite was Wheels "We rock, no lie" response when Riff broke their no repeat guarantee.
Classic radio.
BTW The Dead dropped their most commercially viable album in 87. It was being played everywhere.
P. S. As a side note, The Dead's fan base is larger that most of the other bands on that playlist combined.
