Channel 4 wins yet again (8/24 tornadoes)

The rowdy storms made it tough to sleep.straight thru the night. Between 3 and about 3:30, I checked my phone and flipped on the tube.

What did I see?

-Despite Dave Rexroth's promise last evening to be fully staffed and provide severe weather info as needed, 7 was too busy with its infomercial to provide any flash flood warning info or severe T'Storm warning info. ZERO info on screen, either. Major fail!!!

-Fox 2 was every bit as awful as channel 7. Zero break-ins and zero info on screen. They were too busy replaying last night's 10PM newscast, I guess. Someone in the control room and weather department needs to get off their ass.

-CBS62 had an informative warning map and crawl. No cut-ins, but at least they were providing info.

Channel 4 not only had its usual warning graphic on screen, but Ashlee Baracy did an extended cut-in shortly after 3a. Excellent job!!!

So, just like two Fridays ago, Channel 4 did the best job reporting info to viewers. They preempted a portion of an infomercial to provide live severe weather info.

That’s a bummer with channel 7 coverage, when Mike Taylor has the lead I feel he does a really good job breaking down storms and the impact or lack of impact they may cause

I don't remember what time it was, but after a period of heavy lightning/thunder the winds picked up pretty hard. I clicked on the TV and couldn't see any weather updates on 2, 4, or 7, only the "heat warning" for Thursday. Some of the Toledo stations at least had the radar showing in an upper corner.

The heat advisory unto itself is a joke. With all the atmospheric triggers and trapped low level moisture, there is little chance temps will warm enough to support heat indices above 95 or 96 degrees.

New convection is already starting to fire, too.

I'm with you, Channel 4 has done an excellent job. While other stations don' t seem to make this much of a priority, Channel 4 has made this a priority. Who needs sleep

That shit woke me up out of a dead sleep. It seemed like it was a flash of lightning followed by a loud clap of thunder, one right after another.

Its been pretty fuckin brutal out here all day!

Severe weather risk was just upgraded to a level 3 out of 5 for tonight.

Severe thunderstorm watch now until 1am… localized gusts to 85mph (!) possible… that’s a rarity to have advertised in a watch down south let alone here… a few tornadoes… large hail to 2 inches… lots upon lots of rain… the works. Dew point at metro is an incredible 77 making our 85 feel like 96.

Chicago is 99 with a dew point of 77.. feels like 111 there. GR is 90 with a dew point of 78 feeling like 105, Kalamazoo is 92 with a Dew Point of 81(!) feeling like 112. Incredible.

Chicago tied its all time heat index record of 118 earlier today. Benton Harbor reached at least 116 earlier. I saw a 113 reading in Hudsonville.

Look for a TON of lightning with any organized storms.

I'm seeing some meso rotation near Sanford (Midland County) right now.

The highest dew point reading I ever remember seeing until today in Michigan was 81 on a couple occasions. West Michigan had some awfully hot and humid summers in the 1990s. Not sure I've ever seen an 82 reading here.

I do recall Kalamazoo reached a 126 heat index once in the early 90s, but I believe that was before the scale was recalibrated. I believe they reached 121 within the past 15 years (air temp reached 105 or 106 that day).

Just curious... Is that Chicago record just since 1979, or did someone go back and calculate the heat index for all prior years of recorded weather?

Just to be clear... I'm not picking on you. It's just the type of sentence that "climate alarmists" use when trying to show how extreme something might be when in reality the city might have hit that same point many, many times over the last couple hundred years. We just never measured it.
