It looks like they are 5,000 watts non directional when they reduce power during the daytime.

That's their old site on 8 Mile Rd, which was torn down years ago.

Like I mentioned, many CBS/Audacy stations, both AM and FM, in Chicago have AUX sites in Northwest Chicago. WWJ should have a nondirectional AUX site near one of their coowned facilities. The signal would be much better across the Metro than at low power from Berlin Twp. They just have to keep the 0.5 mV/m AUX contour within the LIC 0.5 mV/m contour. Maybe one of the newfangled fairly efficient short antennas could be used at the WWJ-TV site.

The late Ron Rackley said it was decent.

Perhaps a slightly taller version more efficient at 950 and can use more power.

Or a 199 foot top loaded tower on the TV site.

8:00 AM near Pellston. WWJ signal seems normal or close to normal this morning. News listenable indoors on Tivoli Model One.

They are broadcasting at greatly reduced power for intermittent brief durations during the day. I just heard a brief spurt of dead air as they returned to full power.

Now, they're at reduced power again. The dead air spurts are annoying. I just turned off the radio. Back to SXM for me.

Interesting conversation I had with a broadcast engineer. Cliff Notes:

Modern Harris AM transmitters, even the high powered ones, are all solid state with a series of amplifier modules. One module goes bad, they can unplug it and the other modules still transmit, but the power is reduced.

I only mention it because I remembered this thread and your reduced power discussions.
