GRR has cracked 70 (and still rising). New all time February high temp for them.

DTW is also 70, which either ties or breaks the all time Feb record. We had some insane warmth in Feb 2017, so I'm not certain if 70 breaks the record for the full month.

Kalamazoo is an unfathomable 73 degrees right now!
Just crossed the Ingham county line on 127… showing 74 now.

Overachieving on heat should mean decent storms I hope.

Temps are in the low 70s in west Michigan, where a winter weather advisory was just issued for tomorrow! LOL

Rogers City and Alpena both were 70 degrees at the top of the hour.

WFO GRR is really talking up the severe threat - including tornadoes - for the Kalamazoo area in the mid to late evening hours.

Not to distract everyone too much, but I'll share that I was texted at work by my 10 year old at home in Northern Kent County asking me if I could advise where in the garage there is a garden hose. She and her friend from down the road were ready to cool off running through the sprinkler!

I believe I heard on the radio this morning that not only could today be the warmest February day for Grand Rapids, but also the highest ever on any winter season day.

Cheers! ~~ Statmanmi

That is indeed correct! Meteorological winter is considered December 1 through the last day in February. The previous record at GRR was 69 degrees reached in February 1999. Plenty of backyard thermometers topped 70 that day. A narrow but severe line of storms rolled through Grand Rapids around 6PM that evening.

I believe Ford Airport reached 74 degrees today. Official numbers will be published at 8PM.

I believe the all-time max temp record for a meteorological winter day was also smashed for Detroit (a preliminary high temp of 73 was reached). It was certainly smashed for a number of northern and central MI communities, too.

The outside temp rose by about 13 degrees in a two hour span overnight at my house.

I wonder if that will get extended to the rest of the area in time? They have it going until 5am which tells me that it’s enough to cover everything up to the passage of the cold front with more than one round of storms possible.

The activity is moving at a decent clip, and some cells over Lenawee County are trying to form (but lack the jet support the cells farther west are receiving).

Multiple SVR warnings now in effect for SW Michigan.

New tornado warning just issued for Hammond and Gary, IN.

There is some nasty weather moving toward South Haven.

With temps around here near 60 and the most instability being in the mid-levels, I think hail and lightning are the biggest threats for SE Michigan.

Three likely tornado touchdowns occurred in Chicago's western suburbs earlier, including one in heavily populated Schaumburg.

New tornado warning for Van Buren county.

Pretty good low level rotation near Keeler.

Moments ago, I think WFO GRR made an error by issuing a severe thunderstorm warning for southern Kalamazoo County as opposed to a tornado warning.

While imminence of a tornado is not a sure bet there, I'm seeing enough rotation on radar (and enough variability scan to scan) where I believe a tornado warning should've been issued out of an abundance of caution.

Tornado warning issued for Calhoun County until 1:00 am. Some rotation reported just east of downtown Battle Creek moving due east, just north of I-94.

Vivid lightning, very loud thunder and heavy rain, and some hail tossed in for good measure in SE Oakland County right now.

Certainly looks like a weak tornado could've moved west to east in close proximity to I-94 in Calhoun County not long ago. That couplet was definitely noteworthy when moving across the Battle Creek area, near Firekeepers Casino, and just north of Marshall.

Update - tornado confirmed:
"Calhoun County Emergency Management reported a tornado on the ground near Marshall at 19 Mile and L Drive in Lee Township around 12:37 a.m. Law enforcement confirmed another tornado on the ground at 26 Mile and F Drive North in Sheridan Township."

Source: woodtv.com

NWS is also calling it a confirmed tornado.

This is the same cell that moved across southern Van Buren and southern and central Kalamazoo counties earlier.
