I noticed the holiday period ratings for the Detroit area were available on line now and that the same three stations are
on top as they were in the December ratings. WNIC with Christmas music however jumped to a 15.7% share. Besides WNIC
remaining number one with a bigger share than the previous survey The Ticket remained number two with Sports and went
up to a 7.6% share. The classic rock station WCSX remained in third place with the best classic rock format in Detroit but
their share slipped to a 5.6% share which was slightly down for them. WCSX continues to beat its competition WLLZ that
was way down as always and this time down to a 3.4% share.
So the top three in the market remain the same and what is different is that the Urban Adult Contemporary station
WMXD surpassed WRIF and was fourth with a 4.8% share. The Active Rock station WRIF was fifth with a 4.8% share and
my guess is that because WMXD comes before WRIF alphabetically thats why WRIF is fifth as both stations had a 4.8%
share. What I find interesting is how the classic hits station WOMC is now sixth with a 4.6% share when just a few months
ago they were number one. In other words WOMC is trending downward and that's without any classic hits competition.
I still think they could use competition and more specifically with a classic hits station that includes the 60's as well as the
70's and 80's that WOMC plays. So anyway, this is what I observed about the holiday rating period with the most signifi-
cant stations in Detroit.

Holiday numbers are meaningless and no changes will be made based on them.

I agree completely. They only matter for the stations who actually play holiday music.

Exactly. That's like canceling a TV show because it got beaten by the Super Bowl. We know what to expect.

WJR's ratings are going down because more of their geriatric audience has died.

Jesus. WJR used to be a solid number one back when. How the mighty have fallen.

AM talk radio is dying; talk radio can be heard plenty of other places with much better audio quality. Audio podcasting is essentially on-demand talk radio.

WWJ's hyper local, live news format is not replicated elsewhere, so it draws good numbers (albeit largely 55+).
