And then there's this....

Seems like there used to be a thread on here called something like "And then there's this", where folks posted things like the graphic below.

Stuff that makes you wonder if anyone else at the station looks at content before it goes on the air, even casually, to check for errors.

This one from the folks at Fox2:

Unless he was wrong way somewhere else he was doing that for about 6 seconds...

WJRT in Flint was watching out for our health a couple of weeks ago. Pretty timely on their part.

I was once driving on 94 during a particularly bad snow storm and hit a patch of ice that somehow spun me around in 2 complete circles and by the grace of God I basically ended up right back in my lane as if nothing ever happened. Talk about shitting bricks. Thankfully this was about 5:30 in the morning so not many people on the road yet.

A twice stolen 2023 Dodge Ram was recovered in Livingston County… WWJ 950 has the scoop with apologies in advance to Jim Hughes:

Pointing out typos by overworked and underpaid producers for $200 please.

C’mon.. it’s a completely different make and model and it’s 20 years old… you mean to tell me it’s so bad they type in pickup truck and post the first thing they see and move on in 30 seconds? I could type in 2023 Dodge Ram and cut and paste it in the same time frame. I’m not buying it.

It’s like 7’s years long habit of poorly written articles on their site… nobody has 90 seconds in an 8 hour or more day to proofread?

Well, you kind of made my point.

Is there absolutely no one else who looks at the content before it goes live?

Not always, the stations are putting on twice the amount of content with more graphics and a third of the staff. Automated spell check can stop some misspellings and typos but ones like the OP are going to happen. Online content is even more susceptible to typos because there are even less eyeballs to catch mistakes before publishing.

If you feel the need to document these mistakes, you will always have some examples, but it won't shame the companies into hiring enough people to prevent them.

Timely discussion, because the folks on WDIV last night were poking fun at some station down in Texas for misspelling on air! I forget the exact word, but it was something like "tunnel". The graphic on the screen was written as "Tunel" and the anchor spelled it out..."T-u-n-e-l".

Sounds like more than a couple people had to be in on that mess.

It was an out-of-state station's report about a kid winning a spelling bee. The word was supposed to be "WINNER," which the anchor was to spell aloud on screen as the gag.
Both the onscreen graphic and its letter by letter read-along by the anchor came up "W-I-N-E-R."
The co-anchor had to inform her partner of the error. Big Laffs followed.

Yep, that was it.

The folks at 'DIV had some big laughs about it too.

WDIV managed to stomp on the first segment of Monday's (Feb 6) Jeopardy, running the John Salley MI Lottery wheel spin show in its place. The Hub's got to fill that hole in the rundown now.
