DTX was rock 40 around 1987. No wimpy funk, no metal junk. The New 99.5FM WDTX. That was my favorite format. They flipped to the Fox late July of 1988. I recorded the first station ID as WDFX at midnight. Roll with the changes by REO speed wagon kicked off at both midnight and 6am when the format launched. Andy Savage and Steve Courtney hosted the morning show.

I was also a fan of the Arrow 93.9. Believe they used the CKLW calls. This was around 1993/94? Before the River
The Arrow was a cool station. It was similar to The Arrow 93.1 in Los Angeles, The Arrow stood for All Rock’n Roll Oldies, 93.9 tried to compete with WCSX but it was short lived.
Oh I forgot about that! that was around 1993 or so? during that time period, 93.9 Windsor was so many different things. Going back and forth with oldies, short lived classic rock. Then they tried an Urban AC format(kind of) as I94 if I recall.

I followed the New Wave/Alternative format across the radio dial in the 80's and 90's.
Listen to 99 and half WABX when it was more free format.
Then WLBS when it was trying to stay New Wave, also loved "the Electrifying Mojo" late at night.
Back to 99.5 when it turned over to WDTX "It's cool and you know it".
After it was turned into the WDFX, it was mostly late night programing including "Radios in Motion" on WLLZ on Sunday nights.
Went over to "the Cutting Edge of Rock" on 88.7 till turned into all grunge all the time 89X
And moved over the Planet 96.3
After that ended, it was pretty much back to late night programming when you could catch it.

I feel like the adult hits format of 106.7 the D and 98.7 the Breeze deserved longer runs. I listened to 98.7 the Breeze quite a bit before I went to sleep. I miss it so much. I feel like another station could use a Soft AC format.

Let's not forget WOW-Fm. Maybe not a favorite, but definitely short lived. I liked 102.7, especially when they were morphing from disco to new wave. I went to the state fair (in Detroit), and they had a van playing music there. I met Brad Bianchi who was their morning news man at the time.

I thought I was the only person who liked WOW FM.

I was reading the thread looking for a WOWF/Wow-FM mention. I don't recall thinking much of the actual format, but their comedy stunting before it was epic. I'm sure I still I have some of it recorded on a tape somewhere. Great comedy/music bits.

I also encountered Brad Bianchi somewhere back then - perhaps at some media event or public appearance. Hadn't thought of that name in years.

I always thought that Sony MiniDiscs were cool. They had the best anti-skip protection with almost zero skipping when you were running. You'd think that alone would have increased their popularity.
Oh. Sorry. Wrong format discussion.

I remember some DJ on WABX pronouncing INXS as Inks. :lol

The Fox 50 years at WKBD TV. I believe they stayed with FOX for close to eight years which is short for a TV station.

I did that the first time I came across the band, but that was at a Florida AOR station. I blame the PD: He should have put a pronouncer on the album cover.
