I see that Dennis is retiring from WWJ. I always felt confident working my way around traffic congestion with his know how. He will be missed. A good guy!

There is no Detroit traffic reporter better than Dennis Neubacher. His departure will be yet another reason to not listen to WWJ.

I remember listening to him on my radio scanner both for Channel 4 and 950 in the 90s. His mic operated both on air and off with a hot mic on 50.4 mghz. Very funny off air too.

According to his linked in he was at 760 then channel 7 and only the last 5 years at 950.

Doesn't a tool like Google maps eliminate the need for a person to update you on traffic? Seems like entertainment more than information these days.

Staring at a map while driving sucks.

Besides there’s almost an art to it. Kind of like an auctioneer talking at 1000 mph.

Dennis is a friend and one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. He’ll be missed on the air, and I wish him the best in retirement.

Kudos to Dennis, and best wishes in his retirement!

50.4 MHz is in the amateur radio band. He would need to be a licensed HAM to use that frequency for two-way communication purposes (perhaps he is).

Would not surprise me if Audacy is offering some of its employees early retirement buyouts.

He used to fly "Chopper 7" and report on traffic conditions while flying these visual traffic reports during my time at 7. His brother Greg was the Producer for the early morning news as well at that time.

No one named Neubacher has an amateur radio license currently according to this link.

https://www.fccdata.org/?call=&ccode=1& ... er&lang=en

Maybe it was a station employee who had a license. Many station engineers do.

The only traffic reporter on WWJ even close to his caliber is KT.

It was somewhere around there. May have been 50.04. But it was the transmission directly from the copter to air and also to ground.

And yes, it was channel 7. My mistake.

I used to hear the WWJ (Metro Traffic) chopper up on 455.xxx MHz, as well as the WWJ IFB. Often caught pre-live break chatter between the reporter and the studio.

I did as well. They weren’t doing that every day though.
