WXYZ needs a new studio

Post by TRTV » Sat Aug 27, 2022 4:11 pm

Is it just me or does WXYZ studio just look so old and unappealing lately. I guess fox 2’s weirdly shaped desk isn’t much better but at least updated. It seems like 4 is the only station with a somewhat decent studio. We will see what cbs 62 does with there’s.

It’s 11 years old with some midlife updates 5 or 6 years ago and some tweaks thereafter. The top of it is from 2003.

They need to go back to a large 4 person desk where they actually sit there.

I don't think any of the studios in use by the three incumbent news stations look particularly appealing for a market of this size.

4's is the best of the underwhelming group.

Some of it I recognize from when I retired from there in 2010. Ultimately if I recall it is a Scripps decision as to whether to spend that kind of money on a new set.

7's set looks great compared to WXMI in Grand Rapids.

As good as keys are these days, do you really need a studio?

I presume that everyone is actually talking about the sets, not the studios. Right?

Yes… and no.
It takes about the same amount of work to create a virtual set as it does to create an actual set. Even with the advancements in virtual set CK tech… you’re still limited with shots/camera movement in ways that you aren’t with an actual set.
