No more 4-Zone Weather on WDIV!

Post by MWmetalhead » Tue Aug 09, 2022 6:22 pm

I liked it, but I know some of you were not fans of 4-Zone Weather on WDIV.

Those of you who were not fans will be happy to know it has been abandoned.

WDIV now brands its weather segment as 4Warn Weather.

That's a shame.

There was no zone usage for forecast purposes at 6PM.

I'll watch tomorrow morning for a bit to see if it's used in the forecast.

One of the current temp graphics showing Detroit, Adrian, Ann Arbor and Port Huron still showed the zone labels, but that was it.

I just replayed my DVR moments ago to confirm (no, I didn't record the newscast for later viewing; I used the live TV playback function).

It seemed like it was Andrew's brainchild. I will admit that I didn't like it at first, but it grew on me.

4-Zone started when Ben Bailey was there. Cannot recall if it was his idea or not.

No 4-Zone usage during the forecasts this morning. (Some of the weather graphics used today still had the old icon in the upper left hand corner, though. Someone probably forgot to change that.)

Kim is still using 4 Zone when giving a roundup of expected overnight lows, as has been past practice. (I haven't watched any pre-4 p.m. shows yet this week to see what the guys are doing.) The 4 Warn icon I've only seen used when she switches to the new radar system. Just my observations after two days.

There was a weather promo this morning where they used both the 4zone and 4warn labels, almost as if the 4warn was the overall "umbrella" for their weather product and 4zone was an element of it.

I figured they did a weather rebrand specifically to coincide with Kim Adams taking on the lead duties. Kind of makes sense to do it all at once. 4Warn is definitely the name of the overall weather brand. I have the WDIV weather app on my phone, and the app icon changed about a week ago to be "4Warn." Watched a clip of today's Kim Adams forecast, likely from the 6pm broadcast, and I didn't see her doing the zones. Interestingly, online (and accessible through the app) you can still get to a 4Zone forecast page where the temps are all laid out in the zones graphics that they used to use on-air. So maybe it'll be a web-only feature.

She sure acts like she wrote the software they use.
