760 WJR's audio continues to sound excessively loud and distorted. It sounds especially awful on narrow band receivers.

800 CKLW - after a few years of undermodulated sounding audio - finally sounds normal again!

There's a 1 kW licensed station on AM 950 in greater M=inneapolis.
This might be a factor. It went to Full-time in late 1962. I'll look for a more recent 950 application or 960 possibly, to see who interferes.

Here we go. WXLW Indianapolis. Looking at the interference to KTNF St. Louis Park, MN, and CFAM Altona, MB, it could be both that limit WWJ's IDF in those directions.

950 protects WNTD Chicago, I suspect.

910 just ran a promo offering advertisers the ability to purchase 200 ads for $500 ($2.50 a spot).
😂 are you shitting me!? I have half a mind to buy 400 ads right now 😂

It looks like the inflection in the pattern at around 290-300 (WNW) degrees is what protects the 950 kHz stations in MN, SD, and MB. The null at about 260 degrees protects WNTD. The different height center towers make it so the null can be shallower at zero elevation (ground wave) and deeper at the elevation angles necessary to protect WNTD.

That inflection in the Night Pattern at about 290-300 degrees true goes right toward Ann Arbor. The 2.5 mV/m goes just past Ann Arbor at Night.

From Radio Locator.

The WFDF Night Pattern goes quite a bit further past Ann Arbor, and is around 20 mV/m around US 23 and Plymouth Road, just a little less than WJR. And the measured conductivity equals or exceeds M-3 along those signal paths. The WFDF NIF is quite a bit higher than WWJ, but the signal is strong enough to drown out the interference from other stations. On the East side, the WFDF signal is less than the NIF, and WWJ is about 8 miles further East and has a lower NIF.

Despite Northern Lucas County/Toledo being shown in the WFDF and WWJ night patterns, they have nearly useless signals in Toledo and won't even make the HD indicator even flash in my car while driving there, so HD is of no use, WWJ being useless at night and just usable above abient noise levels during the day, improving as you head north in Monroe County.

Yup. I get better reception from WWJ in the car in and around Cleveland than I do in Toledo. Comes in clear as a bell in downtown Cleveland during the day.

Interesting. I can barely get WWJ from my house or commute in Avon, Just 20ish miles from downtown.

That surprises me. How far from the waterfront are you?

I live about 6.5 miles from the lake.

Decided to turn on WWJ on my way home from work this morning. At my job, in the northeast corner of Avon, it’s clear as a bell. At my house, by the southwest border of Avon and North Ridgeville, heavy static. Odd.

Thanks for sharing that info. Enhancement off Lake Erie is definitely helping the signal near the immediate waterfront.

I cannot recall ever checking the signal personally while traveling I-80 in Lorain County, but all three times I checked in the heart of downtown Cleveland, it was superb.
