97.1 Morning Show

Post by unscopedaircheck » Fri Jan 14, 2022 1:34 pm

Has it become much more sports-focused lately? Did they drop Heather? I haven't heard her at all.

Heather Park is on maternity leave. She had a healthy baby girl around the Christmas holidays.

I listen most mornings from 6:00-7:30 am on my drive to work. I think Stoney, Jansen, and the rest of the morning crew mix up sports with Infotainment well. Example: On Thursday, Jon spoke of buying an air fryer. Is that sports?

Unquestionably yes if you use it to cook wings.

97.1 became much more sports intensive a few years back. It's the reason McAlister was forced out.

I generally listen the morning after a big sporting event. I'm definitely a Dave & Chuck P1 but am a 97.1 P2. 98.7 is definitely coming in a strong 3 with the music intensive mornings and the addition of great gold tracks.

The move was absolute BS.

For me the move was an answer to unsaid prayers. McAllister is on a short list of people I want to punch in the face after listening to them for 3 minutes.

You are such a tough guy! Scares me, this radio fraternity seems to be a pretty tough group (as long as the threats are not in person.

Two words for you....sarcasm and hyperbole.

How about his.....the guy annoyed me because he came across as an obnoxious know it all in my personal opinion . Because of that I was happy that he is no longer doing the show.
I also don't wish unemployment on anyone so I hope he found something to pay his bills.
I'm not sure how you could have taken my comment literally.

McAllister was one of a few people on Detroit radio that actually grew up in Metro Detroit. Not Ann Arbor, Flint or Monroe. Right in the heart of Metro Detroit in Warren. He represented the blue collar eastsiders. Radio and TV in Detroit is full of westsiders. I know that he was too liberal for some, and his music tastes were based on anything close to new wave, but he knew the history of Detroit. He can't be that bad, if he's kept his hot wife around for decades. It's not like he's rich.

Bill was fine for a general talk format. But listening to his sports takes was ungodly. Happy he has an in at CSX. He has a good voice, better than some other "talent" in the market.

He fits in well at WCSX, in my opinion. His style works well on that station.

Hated him at 97.1 the Ticket, though. He constantly tried to stymie Mike Stone. Eventually, during mornings following big games, Bill would be given the day off, with no explanation as to his absence. Usually, Jamie would appear in his place. That always used to amuse me.

McAllister had the best voices, and he was one of the last to actually do "real radio" as a talker in this town. He's not that liberal either but more centrist, and I enjoyed his Hamtramck house party show too back in the day. Real down to earth guy.

I want to start by saying that I do love the 97.1 morning show. But, today’s topic was brutal. I turned on around 7:55 and they were talking about what bad injury, bone sticking out, amputation story do you have? I lasted two calls before I turned it off. Not really the topics I want to hear when I’m drinking my morning coffee
