What's going on on 1480?

Post by k8jd » Sat Oct 30, 2021 8:36 pm

Spanish programming on Ypsi's 1480 but today when I was tuning the band , watching AM modulation bandwidth on my band scope, I heard OLDIES from the 60's playing on 1480 ! Change of format now ?? I did not listen for long and may go back and monitor again later.

It’s possible it could’ve been WDJO from Cincinnati or WGVU from Grand Rapids both are Oldies stations. WSDS might have been off the air at that time.

I have heard R&B oldies on WSDS on Saturdays myself recently. I'm certain it was WSDS because the announcer spoke Spanish and mentioned "musica en oro" ("golden music"). Classic R&B/soul seems to be quite popular with Mexican-Americans, so it sort of makes sense.

Unless WDJO was on an STA, which has not been filed for, you would likely not hear it. Neither Day or Night would be strong. My guess is WGVU. Good nondirectional signal Days. Good Regional Michigan Oldies Format. If a track was a hit in Michigan, it is likely on WGVU.

I live about a half mike away. There is a low level carrier but no modulation.

Are you sure you weren't listening to WPON on 1460, which plays soft oldies?
