When I program radio music I never play any Christmas music until after Thanksgiving. WNIC apparently couldn't even
wait for Halloween to flip to all Christmas. That's really pushing Christmas too far and WNIC should be ashamed of that.
Agreed. WNIC has been doing this for a number of years.

In regards to their normal playlist though, I just looked at their playlist history.
It used to be a bunch of new songs, with the occasional gold.
Now it's reversed.
Looks much more listenable

If the iHeart corporate playlist included more than 75 songs, I wouldn't mind it as much.
One thing I give iHeart credit for: that 75-song playlist does not include "The Christmas Shoes" or "Grandma Got Run Over" (or at least didn't in years past). Thank heaven for small mercies.
Sounds more like 25 song playlist
At times it feels like a one song playlist. A bar in Texas has evidently had enough of that song:

It's here...

A little depressing that they didn't start with the original and best version of Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree, by Brenda Lee.

At least the last song of the normal format was a good one!

So, how do they do this? Play like everything is cool, go into commercial, and come back with the Christmas format?

This station is trash, that's why. They have looked and sounded like trash since Jay Towers joined a decade ago.

But nobody seems to care or notice, since there is no alternative competitor station

Mediabase is showing the first Christmas song played as "Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town" by the Jackson 5, at 8:15am.
http://www.mediabase.com/whatsong/whats ... 7045070077

Shockingly, "that song" has only played twice since then.
No Christmas music on 101.5 Toledo yet, they're doing Friday Night '80s as usual. WRVF has shown a little more restraint in the past few years, waiting until close to mid-November to pull the switch. Their sister station in Grand Rapids apparently just switched at 5pm today.

Me, I miss the days when stations waited until Christmas Eve to go wall-to-wall holiday music, and playing only 30 hours of Christmas music during Christmas Eve and Christmas Day was a big deal. Remember the old WJOI Joy 97 "Christmas Festivals of Music" sponsored by NBD?

IHeart, Audacy and most of the big radio companies are putting more effort in their streaming platforms. The traditional radio platform is hurting because of that. Go to Google Play and just see how many installed apps for IHeart It's currently at 50 million, Audacy 1 million, Simple Radio 50 million, TuneIn 100 million and the list goes on. Don't forget about Sirius XM and YouTube. Traditional radio is in serious trouble.

Spoke too soon about 101.5... they made the move during the 5:00 hour today. Their online playlist shows the first song played as "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" by Darlene Love at 5:39pm.

I've been listening to it a little. It's been 10 months since it was last played, which gives it some freshness. It also gives a nice positive lift. I've been buying Christmas presents since September, so I'm in the mood. Along with all the Christmas TV ads, it helps me look forward to Christmas, which is pleasurable.

Hopefully that feeling will only last another day or two, so that I don't spoil my appetite for Christmas music during the Christmas season.

Thanks for that link. That list is easy to paste into Excel so I checked to see what was being played the most from midnight Friday night to about 6 p.m. today (42 hours). Here's a sample:

FRANK SINATRA Jingle Bells (10)
BOBBY HELMS Jingle Bell Rock (10)

MICHAEL BUBLE Holly Jolly Christmas (10)
MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER Carol Of The Bells (9)
BRENDA LEE Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree (9)

In the Last Christmas contest, the Glee cast led with 8 plays, followed by Taylor Swift and Wham with 7 each.

Biggest surprise:
DRIFTERS White Christmas (4)
TAYLOR SWIFT White Christmas (2)

I'm guessing they're saving Bing for after Thanksgiving.

Looks like I was right about a 25 song playlist.

I'll be listening out of market this year, since this is the first time since 2012 that WOMC or 987 has not saved us with their bigger variety playlist

Music is my life.
