Hmmm,is the news drought at CBS62 about to come to an end?
Hmmm,is the news drought at CBS62 about to come to an end?
Hmm..interesting find on Vimeo, seems the local news drought COULD be at an end at CBS O&O WWJ TV
don't know how to do the URL of the site the video was on, its on vimeo .. but in essence, looks like CBSN DETROIT is about to be a reality and thus CBS62 NEWS as well

Looks like the video was taken down for some reason. Just strange!! I don’t think we were supposed to know that.

you may be right..

It being deleted is proof that it’s going to happen. Paul shouldn’t have posted it. Anyhow, cat is already out of the bag.

I wonder if some recently departed folks from 7 or 4 will show up at 62?
Examples:
Ben Bailey
Justin Rose
Andrea Isom
I also wonder if some recent departees from WXMI in Grand Rapids will show up there.

Morgan Wallen is a piece of garbage.

Are you trying to deep-six it before it even gets off the ground?MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Wed Sep 22, 2021 8:54 amI wonder if some recently departed folks from 7 or 4 will show up at 62?

LOL! I didn't mean to suggest those would all be good hires.
Also keep an eye open for Tom Jordan, who did TV in San Diego for a number of years.
I think 62 launching a local TV news operation is a bad idea. I've held that viewpoint for years and still feel that way today.

I wish they would do a hard news operation and bring in a strong investigative team with the likes of Steve Wilson, Scott Lewis, and Bill Spencer. I know Wilson is out of doing local news these days and Bill Spencer is down in Houston. If Scott Lewis is still around the area I'd love to see him come on board.
Frank Turner was recently fired in Lansing, maybe he'll show back up.

Be nice to see a different format. NONE of the current offerings are all that exciting.
Start with the headlines and just quick updates to the stories that have been around (maybe a four or five minute version of "your world in sixty seconds" from CBS Mornings), or a quick summary of a new headline. Segment two is a deeper dive to more complex stories and then segment three would be a deep dive on a local story. Maybe partner with someone like Crain's for a business segment that is really focused locally, sort of a mini FOXBUSINESS or CNBC. In between the segments you fill in the updates on weather and sports.

CBSN is mostly online.
Anyhow, I think CBS 62 is going to thrive this time. We are now in a time where there’s more of a demand for news. On top of that, many in this area are sick of WXYZ and definitely WJBK Fox 2. With two of the top three now weakening, it’s a perfect time for CBS to strike. Detroiters are looking for a better alternative. Only those who are baby boomers and who were born pre-1985 are still stuck on the same ol crap from 2, 4, and 7. Don’t be shocked if CW 50 News at 10 is a casualty of the launch of CBSN Detroit.

IMO, I agree ..with CBS62 starting up a news department, I do think the KTVT Houston produced CW50 News at 10 is gone, to be produced by CBS62.. BUT why do I get this feeling the whole thing MIGHT be called CBSN DETROIT NEWS

The newscasts on WCBS and KCBS suck, and WBBM has been an also-ran for decades.
So, I strongly disagree with you, Circle.
True, nothing could be as bad as the half assed effort of two decades ago.
TV news ratings over recent years have been sinking in Detroit. Most folks under 45 only watch a small amount of TV news daily on local stations.

It will be a much better effort this time. It might be a January or February launch.
