My sources are telling me February with a soft launch at 11pm adding earlier shows down the line.

If that’s the case, than they need to stop saying “later this fall.” That’s flat out deceptive. As long as it’s done right, it really doesn’t matter how long it takes. I can see a soft launch with an 6 and 11 pm later this year.

That studio is nowhere close to being finished, so a February launch would not surprise me.

They sure are paying a lot of people to do relatively little work, if indeed no newscasts will be added until February.

An earlier launch with anchors standing in front of a chroma key wall would look stupid and would create a terrible first impression. I agree with waiting so that a strong product can be delivered out of the gate.

Shaina’s Instagram post suggests they are closer with the set, especially if they are sound testing, but there could be other factors involved. The fact that they are still hiring for anchors and reporters suggest that they are not ready for a full launch.

Studio newsroom still hasn’t had its first electrical inspection from the city of Southfield and essential broadcast equipment still hasn’t been delivered. Those are the primary delays, the staff is impatient to get going.

Makes sense. It’s up to CBS and the station’s GM to get the city of Southfield out there.

Now I’m reading that it’s expected to launch next month. At this point, I really don’t care when it launches, as long as it’s a good product and not some rushed crap.

It’ll have the word news in it… does that make it good?

In addition, there seems to be delays in rolling out CBS’s new graphics package, made for only the network O&Os. Just a mess right now at CBS.

Hate to break it to you but CBS’s local stations are commonly bottom or near bottom rated.

Been known that. It’s because CBS has mismanaged all of its O&Os for years. But it’s still shocking that there’s chaos in even accomplishing the minor things.

Rolling out a graphics package to all your stations isn’t a minor undertaking…

I don’t think rolling out a new graphics package is as big as starting a news department, and building it from scratch. It’s challenging to do it in a market where three stations have dominated for decades.

The stuff needs to be installed and functional before the city can be called to do an inspection. Glad to see you finally acknowledged the fact that CBS has mismanaged many of its O&O stations for a long time. Totally agree.

Could be wrong but I think there’s s lot of pressure on CBS to get things going. I think they really are pushing for the station to set a date, so there’s not any confusion to when it will start. I agree that the anchors and the staff are impatient.

I also think the station’s GM and even News Director are dealing with a lot of pressure to get things done. They want this to be launched before the end of the year.
