There’s a lot of talk on here about building this team from the “ground up,” but that doesn’t necessarily mean the same thing as it did before with the network doing so much of the work.

WWJ 950 is no longer owned by CBS.
You are right, my bad.

I'm surprised no date for launch yet from CBS62 News I got to believe it's 4 or 5 weeks away?

Saw a post from former WEYIer Kristen Aguirre that she’s moving back to Michigan. 🤔

It’s looking like a mid-late September launch folks! Apparently, some more big hires will be announced soon. As for how long it will last, CBS is investing millions in this launch, so they are going to be very patient with this. I think it’s going to stick around. I do like the anchor hires so far, so everything does look promising.

Can you please list who they have hired for on-air talent?

The beginning of their on air talent was announced a couple weeks ago. These people were hired a couple months ago but CBS62 waited until July to announce it. As for newer hires, I have my suspicions but I’m waiting for it to be confirmed.

He doesn’t actually know anything so it’s not worth humoring him with that question.

Recent press releases list Amyre Makupson as a new hire in the production area. A few show a picture that’s clearly not Amyre (Porter) Makupson, from WGPR/WKBD in the 1970s-1990s. Is the new hire someone else with the same name?

Yes, it is indeed someone else with the same name. She's the daughter of the Amyre you remember from WGPR and WKBD. Pretty sure this was made clear in the station's announcement.

The new 10 PM newscast on WKBD is arguably the worst I've ever seen in this market. They managed to take an already bad product and make it a 100x worse!

Even the INN-produced newscast that briefly aired on TV 20 (before its newscast was outsourced to a sister station in Fort Wayne) was better than this garbage.

Gayle King was in town the other day and stopped by the CBS O&O. According to the CBS Detroit Facebook site, construction has just begun on the new set. So I’m guessing the latest CBS News Detroit launches, is October. The earliest will probably be in late September.

I predict they will time its debut with the new CBS season.

Late September is a good guess. Also gives time to work out kinks before November sweeps.
