Comcast Outage

Post by sfpcc1 » Sat Aug 14, 2021 10:24 am

At Thursday morning 3:49 AM my Cable and Internet went out after the storm. As of this post it is still not working. When I tried to call Comcast I can't past the phone system. I went in to one of their stores yesterday and asked about it and they said, " we know there's a problem but we don't don't when it's going to be fixed." Is anyone else out there having this problem?

A little secret with call centers. Learn enough Espanol to navigate the phone system. Spanish operators are live and bilingual. And easier to understand, as opposed to who you usually get with the English call centers.

This is the very reason I dumped Comcast years ago. They had just dumped their local service office in the immediate area which made it nearly impossible for service etc. They just don't care. Why don't you ask them if your bill will be reduced to reflect days without service. After they decline to do that you will understand why I broke ties with them and never went back.

In the past Comcast has always compensated me for lost service that lasted more than a few hours. I didn't even have to ask.
Maybe they don't like people who use blue font in forums 🤔

It just came back . It happened sometimes between 9:30 and 12 30 this afternoon so it was down roughly 55 hours.

In my experience they would credit me 2 days on either my next bill or the bill after depending on where I was in the billing cycle.

Usually, if there is a power outage in your neighborhood (even if your home is unaffected), cable goes down, too.

I lost cable, internet and phone Wednesday evening and then again on Thursday from about 9a to 1p.

The local news outlets were all useless; zero mention of the Comcast outage.

I kept power the entire time even though 70 percent of my neighborhood (including neighbors across the street) were without. In fact, those folks didn't regain power until late afternoon today!

My internet was good from May until the start of this month. This month, I have had more dropouts than DPS.

Still multiple sections of streets in my neighborhood with no electricity!!!

It's not as if my area is in the boonies. I live only a mile from Beaumont Royal Oak for cripe's sake.

It's been four fucking full days. This wasn't a high grade wind event, although admittedly, numerous areas were impacted. On the west side of the state, Consumers seems to do a much better job restoring power quickly in urbanized areas.

I was very, very lucky. I can walk 50 yards down the street and still hear gas powered generators.

The problem often isn't where you live so much as how many people are down on a given problem.
The goal is to get the most people back as fast a possible.
I'd they can get a 1000 people back and leave 150 behind they will go to the next big return and come back later for the 150.

630K people were out from the storm, a new record(I don't include the blackout because that was due to out of state issues). They restored 400K after 48 hours. The winds were 60-70 mph across a widespread area. I don't think people appreciate the power of that storm and the impact of climate change.

So Basically it's the concept of triage applied to an utility system.

Friday night I dug out an old alarm radio and listened to WDET. It was a little like being back in college.

I suppose so. I guess its the most logical way to go but sucks if you get left behind.
I lost power about 7 am Thursday and got t back about 10 hours later.
My daughter a mile away lost power about the same time Thursday but just got it back about 1PM today (Sunday).
