Ben Bailey leaving WDIV

Post by Jimmyherd » Sat Aug 07, 2021 1:05 am

Ben Bailey just announced he is leaving WDIV. He made the announcement after his report on the 11PM news which was running after the Olympics Basketball finals.

Since I am not in the business, I wonder what led to the decision.

He seems like a nice guy, but his forecast accuracy left a LOT to be desired.

This past Wednesday on the 6PM news for example: "We'll see hot indices topping out around 102 or 103 for a couple of days early next week."

First off - only a maniac would make such an extreme proclamation that many days in advance.

Secondly - the forecast models fail to take into account the impact of the western wildfires. If a layer of smoke stays "locked in," it often suppresses high temperatures versus model forecast. If highs stay in the upper 80's, for example, and if afternoon humidity is 60%, the peak heat index would be 95 degrees.

I noticed in recent days he had been working from home. Most everyone else, including Bernie, has been back in the studio.

Here's hoping Ben's successor isn't as much of a "Chicken Little" when it comes to predicting the weather.

Morgan Wallen is a piece of garbage.

Cue Andrew Humphrey 5 days a week.

I always liked how Keenan Smith did the weather at WXYZ before he was moved to news anchor.

Would not bother me in the least if WDIV were to lure him.

Given the history of this market I wouldn't be surprised if they brought Gaidica back.

I believe April Moss is looking! LOL

I'd give the gig to Paul Gross. He's smart, solid, and is already familiar to WDIV viewers.

Nothing better than dry toast.

They/them, non-binary and proud.

Or he just wanted a pay raise. The longer you stay at a job, the more money you lose.

The sweet spot is changing jobs every three years as you can increase your salary by more than $10,000.

You won’t even come close to that if you stayed at the same job for 5+years

Walking away from a 6 figure job in part because you don’t want to get a COVID 19 vaccine?

What an idiot and fool he is.
