Speed Humps

Post by Bobbert » Sat Feb 12, 2022 1:22 pm

Numerous Detroit area media outlets are reporting on the installation of 3,000 new speed humps in Detroit.

I'm wondering if these impact the snow plows that have to clear the snow on those streets. Anyone know if that's an issue?

They could cause problems, based on experiences elsewhere.

Indeed, the bump humps can be problematic for plows. Mayor Duggan mentioned this very issue during a recent press conference following the 12-18" predicted snow storm that turned out to be a 6-9" storm.

Plows have to greatly reduce their speeds to prevent equipment damage. As a result, it takes longer to clear snow from neighborhood streets.

Is it that difficult to call them speed BUMPS?

I'm happy to see Detroit's biggest issue has been solved! 🙄

Speed humps look less jarring than speed bumps:

I feel sorry for the TV anchors who have to report on this and try to keep a straight face while they use the phrase "speed hump." Before that, in their office, there's probably been a lot of joking about the phrase, with comments like, "I thought the only place they installed speed humps in Detroit were cheap motels on Eight Mile Road and in the Cass Corridor."

Speed humps isn't just another name for a nooner or a quickie?

When I was younger I thought Jobbie Nooner was a sexual euphemism.

Grand Rapids has (or had, it was 2006 last I was there) a lot of speed humps. First time I saw one.. my inner child kicked in.
