NextGenTV/ATSC 3.0 Interactive Features?

Post by antennacanuck » Fri Jun 18, 2021 8:57 am

Does anyone have insight into the interactive features of NextGenTV/ATSC 3.0 that are being tested and/or rolled out?

I did a channel scan yesterday and noticed some interactive apps available on 4.1 & 7.1.

The apps are quite similar, but skinned differently. They both have working links to VOD news content, however, each video fades to a low/no signal screen after about 30 seconds on my Sony X90H/X900H.

I'm not sure if the issue is with Sony's software or the testing of these features.

Any input would be appreciated.

Side note: 20.1 ATSC 3.0 has been dark for the past little while....but 20.99 has the same feed and is working just fine. I'm not sure what's going on there.

Could you give us rundown of what apps/features you are seeing via ATSC 3 in the Detroit area?

It looks like this sample video, with local branding and content

Example: WDIV Local 4

-Navigate to channel 4.1
-A large "4" icon on left side of screen prompts you to hit enter (or right arrow)
-It'll disappear after 3 seconds without any input
-Upon input, sidebar appears on left of screen with channel name and logo at the top

-Weather
-Something Good
-Help Me Hank
-Uniquely Detroit
-All About Pets
-Settings
-Exit

I also have a Sony, a XJ80, I think Sony is the only company with a ATSC 3.0 tuner available on the market. Mine is acting much like yours, I start the digital content and it fades out quickly.

I like the Sony ok, it is a good integration of streaming and over the air. But I don't like how there is no signal meter, or one I can find in the app store. So you really can't tell how well you are receiving a signal. I do like how you can scan for new channels without having to do a full rescan and then have to redo your channel line up.

I haven't had it long, but the ATSC 3.0 signals so far have been coming in without any kind of glitches or interference. Yes ATSC 3.0 20.1 is blank, and 20.99 takes a few seconds to appear, but I am sure that is transmission side issues, not my tuner.

------------

Signal Diagnostic:
-Navigate to channel
-Push "Help" on the remote control
-Select Signal Diagnostic

So that's where they hid it, I keep looking for it in the channel setting options.
