I may or may not have posted this video before, but it is an EXCELLENT interview from Rick Beato, talking to Matt Pinfield and Leslie Fram (who started 99x in Atlanta). A great timeline about how alternative stations started, what they used to be about, and how they became de facto rap/pop stations. If you have any interest, like those of us who grew up on 89x, I highly suggest you watch this.
Pinfield's still alive? I thought that fatbody would have had a heart attack by now.
He's lost a lot of that weight and now looks like one of the ninja turtles from the movies in the 90s.

Cut those cookies!
Iced Oatmeal or Chocolate Chip?
That depends. Is there already 4 iced oatmeals? And does it say chocolate chip but is really macadamia nut?

Will we see any format flips or tweaks over the holiday weekend?

Probably not. What is there left to flip to? All the groups are happy with their mediocre playlists and even more mediocre ratings.

Cumulus would dump all their gNash ICON stations and make them into 'jack/doug FM' variety stations so WMIM could get more than a fractional share!

Nobody wants to experiment. Nobody wants to even try out something different on an HD channel or as a stream on their website. It's the same shit, day in and day out.

In my car, it's streaming/podcasts or SXM. When I absolutely have to listen to the radio, I'll put on NPR, 107one, Riff, WRCJ, or 950. Maybe 580 when I'm in the mood for oldies. At home, it's streaming all the way.

I know that iHeart, Entercom/Audacy, Cumulus, and Beasley can do better. They just choose not to.

Hey, if 98.7 was a true alternative with a heavy gold lean, I'd probably almost never switch. Instead, they choose to play rap, white rappers gone pop punk, pop, and songs with 2 acoustic guitar strings being played the whole time. And Billie Eilish.
