Passing of former Detroit radio and television news reporterThis seemed the most appropriate forum to notify

The "Buzzboard" seems to be the most appropriate place to inform Detroit area media aficionados of the death of my father, Tom Korzeniowski.
My father had worked at WJR as their City/County reporter in the early 1970s before moving over to television at WJBK where he did news reporting and some weekend anchoring. He was selected as a 1975-1976 National Endowment for the
Humanities Journalism Fellow (now the Knight-Wallace Fellowship) while working at WJBK. He left Detroit in the late 1970s for the Chicago television news market where he worked as a reporter at WBBM (where he won an Emmy) and WMAQ.
Here is his obituary:

WEST DUNDEE - On Friday, February 12, 2021, loving husband and father Thomas Michael Korzeniowski passed away at the age of 83. Tom was born on March 31, 1937 in Detroit, MI to Frank and Catherine (Molenda) Korzeniowski. He was baptized in the Catholic faith, and after the untimely passing of his parents, spent his formative years with relatives and then at Boysville, after which he joined the U.S. Air Force in 1954. Deployed to Japan, he met and married Toshie Tanaka in 1956. While in the USAF, he worked in Cryptography, radio broadcasting for the Far East Network (FEN), became a Lifetime Pistol Marksman and achieved 2nd Degree Black Belt in Judo at the Kodokan in Tokyo. He was an actor, ("Flight from Ashiya" - 1964, "The Green Slime" - 1968, "Pecker" - 1998, "Homicide: Life on the Street" and "The Replacements" - 2000) and also one of several voice-over actors dubbing the Japanese TV series, "The Samurai (Spy Swordsman)", into English, which became an Australian favorite. Recognized as an Emmy Award winning Journalist (1980-1981 for coverage of the Reagan shooting), he worked for WJR radio in Detroit, WJBK, WBBM and WMAQ as a News Reporter/Anchor in Detroit and Chicago, after which he left news reporting for Communications positions for Baxter Travenol and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, was a 50 ton vessel Masters License holder from the US Coast Guard, and concluded with writing for WGN News in Chicago. An accomplished Aviator, he also loved sail boating, motorcycling, target shooting, firearms, archery, fencing, hunting, SCUBA diving, astronomy, photography, model trains, reading, watching movies, playing the alto saxophone and piano. He earned his Bachelor's degree at the University of Michigan, and his Master's degree at the University of Chicago, enjoyed Classical music and doted over his Portuguese Waterdog, Abby. He is preceded in death by his father, Frank (1939); his mother, Catherine (1952); and his grandson, David (2020). He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Toshie; sons, Carlton (Marcia) and Michael (Jeanne); daughter, Donna (Russell) McCoy; sister, Julia Minster; granddaughters, Jillian Conrad, Nicole (Casey) Knoepfle, and Taylor Oestereich; grandson, Timothy Oestereich; and great-granddaughter, Kayla Knoepfle.

Was Tom Korzeniowski his "air name?"

I listened to a great deal of WMAQ News in the early to mid 90s, a most respectable operation covering Chicago politics and city happenings, then.

My thoughts and prayers go your way, in this time of loss.
