At a small gathering Saturday evening with friends and the subject did arise about "The New Dance Show" on WGPR-62 back before CBS bought the station out, and those commercials for the Watts Club, much reminiscing was done but we all agreed, those "Watts Club Mozambique" spots for the male dancers are still legendary to this day...shout outs to "Juicy"
"Capital Punishment"
"Another Level"
"Sudden Impact"
"Hawk"
"Joy Ride" (with that Chucky doll)
"Rock Hard"
"Absolute"
"Royal Loucsious"
"Midnight Lover"
"Social Lovers", and of course who can forget
"Strictly Ghetto"
Acceptable registrations in the queue through March 16 at 11:00a ET have now been activated. Enjoy! -M.W.

Watts Club Mozambique spots
Re: Watts Club Mozambique spots
I've seen the Youtube clip it's really funny. I don't remember seeing that actual ad on Old 62, (but I kind of remember Dot And Etta's Shrimp Hut.)
Does anyone remember the name of that announcer?

Detroit Free Press, June 10, 1983:
Since 1969, Watts Club Mozambique has been a Detroit entertainment showcase, especially for rhythm & blues acts. Cornelius Watts says the money demands have now turned him away from live musical entertainment. He's stripped down, so to speak, to showcasing male dancers. "I've gone with male dancers because there's big money," Watts explained.
Detroit Free Press, July 29, 1996:
The music was thumping and the lights flashing as the Sexual Healer took the stage at a Detroit strip club Sunday night.
But with U.S. Rep. Barbara-Rose Collins sitting front row center, the exotic dancer kept his clothes on.
The Detroit Democrat's $15-a-head affair at the west side strip club was meant to raise money for her Aug. 6 primary campaign. But the venue also raised the eyebrows of some people who questioned whether Watts' Club Mozambique was the best place for an elected official to beef up her campaign coffers.
After the show, Collins said she didn't see what all the fuss was about. "It's good clean fun," she said. "Everyone had their clothes on."
Detroit Free Press, March 15, 2005:
He was wanted for questioning in last year's fireworks shooting in Hart Plaza.
He was wanted in connection with the July 6, 2003, shooting outside the Watts Club Mozambique male strip club in Detroit, where a gunman indiscriminately fired a 9mm handgun into a crowd of 40 people, wounding six.
One of Michigan's most wanted fugitives, he remained on the lam for more than a year.
Now, Gary Williams, 24, of Detroit is going back to prison for 30 to 60 years.
