Looks like they went ALT to fill in for 89X

Well they're doing one hell of a job promoting it; nothing on their website or social media promoting the change. Wow...

I'm thinking this is only a stunt. They went All-Christmas earlier today only to switch to Alternative today? You'd think they would flip right after Christmas was over.

Well not sure it is the right move for the Detroit market but maybe they see an opportunity here. For all the crap that 89X and the River did receive on this board (some warranted some not) they did play a lot of music that was not being heard with any regularity on any US station. I haven't had a chance to listen to 98.7 but I guess I will have time now that 88.7 and 93.9 are unlistenable for me. They will probably try to sound between 89X and the River....probably like 89X used to sound like before moving towards harder rock. Again, from what I read on this board, that seems like a tough sell in the Detroit market, but hey, at least they are not doing what a half a dozen stations are already doing in the market.

This seems to be a very last minute thing. They don't even have a real website, the domain name was just registered today and the Twitter account was registered AFTER the station launched.

If they're considering Billie Eilish "alternative", then someone made a mistake.

Wow. It's true.

They are playing Billie Ellish. Not a good substitute for 88.7 by any means...perhaps moreso for 93.9.

The two stations only had about a 3 share of combined listening here.

This is probably a budgetary move for Entercom. They just fired a lot of people.

"Alt 98.7" it is.

I guess David Field didn't see the horrendous ratings of 106.7 when it aired very similar programming.

I hope Entercom enjoys the horrible ratings 98.7 is guaranteed to earn.

WNIC will be an 8 share radio station year round now. They lost a direct competitor and semi-direct competitor minutes apart!

She’s been considered that for a while...she even gets spins on triple-A stations as well.

MW — I have to agree. As much as I like alt, it ain’t gonna work in Detroit again. Guess they don’t know the definition of insanity...

Same crappy playlist that earns milquetoast ratings in Kansas City and Dallas comes to Detroit via 98.7. Lucky us. This will prove to be a colossal failure.

What does "Alternative" actually mean in 2020? I'm 52 and when it comes to music made in the last ten years I'm a little lost on certain things.

There is literally no chance this gains anywhere near the ratings The Breeze got. But, as MW said, this is likely a cost-cutting move, as Entercom will likely only have one local jock (at most).

Strange move here, as the ratings for Alt, 89X (back in its alternative days), and The River really don’t seem to indicate much of a market for this format.

A good day for 16 year olds who listen to FM radio. The new 98.7 and 93.9 will appeal to them.

Horrible day for those who like listening to FM radio at the office.
