Eddie Van Halen dies

Post by Captain Rock » Tue Oct 06, 2020 4:39 pm

94.7 WCSX and 106.7 WLLZ are now playing all Van Halen music. Dave Dahmer and Doug Podell are live on the air. They are playing deeper cuts, not just the top hits.

After a long battle with cancer, Eddie Van Halen dead at 65. R.I.P.

He was a heavy heavy smoker and battled the bottle for years, but all in all I loved his work, the first four VH albums absolutely smoked your speakers at full volume, quite possibly thee greatest axe shredder in our lifetime....

...and Doug Podell is still on the air?!?

101.1 WRIF is also all Van Halen.

Wikipedia is likely to crash with all the disk jockeys across the country looking for stuff to say between the phone calls and Van Halen songs.

I just read the news, clicked on WCSX Listen Live, and was met by the thunderous opening licks of Best of Both Worlds.

5150 is currently on my turntable. I can't even begin to explain what Eddie's music means to me. Thank you, Edward.

Only 94.7 is continuing the marathon at this point.

Sidenote - WCSX's processing sounds awful. (106.7's sounds great.)

R.I.P. Eddie.

WQUS 103.1 is playing all Van Halen now.

Is THAT where they got the idea for the 486-SX?

God, I remember being a teenager and having my mind blown the first time I heard Eruption leading into You Really Got Me. Those DLR-fronted albums are cemented as an integral part of my high school memories.

R.I.P.

They're part of my go go club memories of the mid 1980's. Every time I hear Panama I get a mental image of a beautiful dancer swinging around a stripper pole at B.T.'s in Dearborn.

The Wall Street Journal had a good article about him today, more than just a standard obituary. Never knew he was born in Amsterdam, or that he had a family background in classical music.

Last night MTV classic replayed eight Van Halen Videos all night:

Pretty Woman
Jump
Panama
Hot For Teacher
When It's Love
Dreams
Right Now
Best Of Both Worlds.

I kind of hoped they'd show clips from the early days like Running The Devil or at least Beat It.

I will definitely agree that Eddie was one of the best guitarists ever to play. May he R.I.P.

In Toledo, WXKR played all Van Halen during the 5 PM hour on Tuesday. Not sure if WIOT did anything or not.
