Scripps question (WXYZ related)
Scripps question (WXYZ related)
Is EW Scripps now the largest media outlet in the country, or does Nextar hold that title? I was asking, because I’ve noticed that Scripps has bought a bunch of television stations over the past few years. With that said, is WXYZ still one of Scripps biggest stations as far as it being a cash cow? Or did they lose that title?

I don't know if WXYZ is one of the biggest cash-cow wise, but NexStar holds the title for largest operator of broadcast TV stations.

Right now no property is a cash cow, advertising revenue is way down.

It’s doubtful in this environment cash is up...
Re: Scripps question (WXYZ related)
Political ads are what's carrying everybody right now, should be a decent 3rd and 4th quarter for political but retail advertising is way down and Art Van left a giant hole both in accounts receivable and in future add buys. All of the stations in the market took a bite out of that shit sandwich.

Nexstar & Sinclair are the largest TV owners owning over 150+ each. Scripps owns 51 TV stations maybe a bit more.
Go Pistons, Let's Go Redwings.
Re: Scripps question (WXYZ related)
Sinclair is bigger, and Scripps spun off their cable stations
Re: Scripps question (WXYZ related)
It has been in trouble for years. Terrible biased infotainment packaged as news. Netflix and Prime, hulu... all give us a complete series season of TV in one drop, and hundreds of programs in their catalog. Meanwhile broadcast gives us a bachelor, dance off, sing off, literally mindless sitcoms, and maybe four real shows a season and they cancel two of them halfway through the season.
