What a waste of musical and sports history. What a shame, R.I.P. Palace of Auburn Hills.

What a waste of taxpayer and investor money.

Meanwhile, the Colosseum still stands at age 1,950.

True, UP906, but one that should still be here! It was still in almost immaculate condition when it closed for good.

The Silverdome, Tiger Stadium and JLA were all dumps.

Palace Sports & Entertainment was mismanaged after Tom Wilson left.

Bill Davidson has GOT to be rolling in his grave today. He never would've let this happen.

The Palace was built and renovated with 100% private financing. As to the investors, the Davidsons made their money back and then some. And Gores has a sweetheart deal on the reuse of that land. The investors are doing just fine, thanks.

Is it a shame that we live in such a disposable society? Yep. But at least with this building it's not been a burden on the taxpayers.

It’s an implosion (look it up), not an explosion.

Thanks for playing though.

Karen or whomever sold the team, the Palace and related assets for too low of a price. I agree that Gores got a sweetheart deal.

Yes, it makes me sad, it was a beautiful building and I have a lot of great memories there. I worked there in the mid 90's before moving on to 7. It was a great experience for a guy in his 20's and I still have friends from that time that I see at other venues and events.

The only thing wrong with the Palace was the location. I live in Oakland county and it was a pain in the ass to get to and leave, for those who live downriver, western Wayne or Grosse Pointe it had to be a nightmare. At least for me I can get downtown and park and be in the arena in a half hour and home even a little quicker after a game at LCA.

Absolutely right, Editorcj. From downriver, or even just near the Ambassador Bridge, the palace seemed like it was a million miles away. I don’t remember many friends going there very often. It was like a road trip to get there.

Same can be said of Detroit Metro Airport for folks who live in northern and central Macomb County, St. Clair Shores, Roseville, Rochester Hills, Waterford, etc.

Agreed- the airport location is also too far from a majority of the area population.
