My advice is, only worry about feeding your main TV. No splitters. The LEAST loss from a splitter is 3.5 dB. Many splitters are even worse. Put up a second antenna a few wavelengths away for another TV.
I used the splitter to simulate the future power decrease, so I could see if I'd be able to receive them.

They're currently running at 6.5 kW, but that will end when their STA expires, and they decrease to 3 kW.

That's the issue with trying to find the right low vhf antenna, will a 30/40 mile range still work with the power decrease??

Who's going to screw around with this kind of nonsense?? Better to wait until the power decrease, more issues to arise for the few getting the signal right now.Not a good scenario for WHNE.

The geeks on this board.

They might file for an extension of the STA if they can.

You can easily get 10-15 dB gain over rabbit ears with 20 foot outdoor antenna. That's like increasing the power by 10-31.6.

I can screw around with splitters and pre-amps because my setup is indoors, I distribute the antenna in the only north facing room of my house to my south facing living room.

After the decrease, the 55 dBu contour should work for indoor antennas, 35 dBu for outdoor

To calculate the field strength at your location, here are some resources:

https://www.fcc.gov/media/radio/fm-and- ... ion-curves (calculator, select (50,90), FM or 2 to 6, and field strength by distance in km. HAAT is 147.12 m)

They also have an MOD for 6.5 kW filed which is pending.

I agree they have really done a number on the station though.

That mod is nearly 10 months old, it's basically dead

Here's what has been applied for so far:

https://www.fccdata.org/?facid=&call=WH ... d=&lang=en

I misspoke, it's a MOD CP.

here's a VHF low/high combo from Solid Signal in Novi, might work for a lot of you...…

Good suggestion, windsor.

They also had an interesting indoor antenna on their site (which might be suitable for folks living within 10 miles of the WHNE site):

Splouge, I think you are jumping the gun by declaring the MOD CP "dead." The FCC databases do not always contain the most current info.

The fact the 6.5 kW STA was granted suggests to me there's a good chance the 6.5 kW MOD CP will also be granted, albeit perhaps not right away.

just a thought here.....

If WUDT stays at rf23 maybe WHNE could move into the RF8 slot OR add Daystar to their channel lineup for free and relocate to RF8.

Any one????

Maybe something could happen with WWJ TV. CBS's ratings never recovered after the 94 realignment, and if WHNE let WWJ air a HD simulcast of 62.1 on one of 3's subchannels (transmitted from 62's transmitter, for coverage and bandwidth purposes, while still being licensed as a WHNE subchannel), WHNE could get money from CBS and broadcast some of their channels on WWJ's transmitter, some on WKBD's transmitter, and some on the VHF 3 signal (hopefully the infomercial channels would be the only ones on VHF 3, of course it wouldn't make any difference to me)

62.1 would remain so it could be licensed as WWJ, full powered, and keeping cable coverage.

WUDT is a low power station with no immediate co channel interference in the area, they have til July to move.

If WHNE were to share with WUDT, they could only put 6 of their channels on there, unless WUDT wanted to downgrade to SD.

Ultimately, you can't control what WHNE does, you can only control what you do, you can change your antenna, but you can't change WHNE's frequency

You could just mount a set of rabbit ears outside at some moderate height. You'd get a substantial increase in signal.

Nope, not sturdy enough. The rods are not made of the same sturdy thick metal that outdoor VHF yagis are. They'd snap off in the wind.
