February's Nielsen Audio survey - demo rankings for A25-54, A18-34 and A18-49

WKQI edged out WRIF barely for top honors in Adults 25-54:

Top 5 in Adults 25-54:
1) WKQI
2) WRIF
3) WCSX
4) WNIC
5) WMGC

I am impressed by the perseverance of 105.1 The Bounce. In virtually all other markets across the country, that format draws significantly weaker numbers.

WRIF is showing some cracks in Adults 18-34, albeit nothing major. Still very strong performer.

i'm not too surprised with WMGC... they air the music people here want. It was the right move at the right time, and the listener loyalty reflects that :D

You mean if a station plays music people want to hear the ratings will be better? I wonder what would happen if a station focused on great rock songs from the 80's and 90's? Man, I bet that would be a winner. Too bad no station around here does that.

80s and 90s rock should not be mixed together in equal proportion. Those eras sound too different.

106.7 tries to do that. They get killed by 101.1, 94.7, and 97.1 in the ratings.

No, not in any consistent way. They insist on having half of their playlist be overplayed safe songs from the 70's. They are trying to make everyone happy and anyone with half a brain knows you cant do that. If 106.7 stuck to great songs from the 80's and 90's CONSISTENTLY and left out "Dream On", "Bohemian Rhapsody" etc. they would be much stronger and listenable. Nobody needs to hear "More Than a Feeling" yet again.

Having the only local morning show on an Urban format station in the market no doubt helps. So does airing a music playlist that doesn't sound like a continuous loop of a lawn sprinkler in the background. WJLB is a shell of what it once was and Hot 107-5 has always been a joke. Again, hip-hop is not my cup of tea but I have to respect what 105.1 is accomplishing.
