104.7

Anyone know what happened to 104.7? I used to be able to pick it up in the downriver area, now it's just static.

Now that you mention it, I used to get a great signal in Brighton, but lately, even into Livonia, I barely get it. MW, what's the deal?

Could be that they are interfering with WIOT again? WIOT got them shutdown a few years ago for interference complaints in Monroe County and SE Wayne County.

Nothing in Metro Detroit is blocking reception in those areas.

My guess is WIOT is broadcasting at reduced power due to tower work. TV stations broadcast from the same tower, correct? Numerous TV stations are in process of relocating to new spots on the dial, installing ATSC 3.0 compliant antennas, etc.

BTW, Mega, you should do a rescan on your TV. You may be able to pick up both WLNS and WLAJ now. Both are broadcasting at full power from the east end of Okemos Twp on RF 14 now.

Thanks. I'll give it a try a little later on!

WIOT could be temporarily using the WCWA tower due to the aforementioned TV tower work. That's where they were when I worked there.

And to MW, I think you mean Meridian Township. There's no such place as "Okemos Township"...one Okemos in this world is enough. :lol

MW- I rescanned and now get 6.1...it is an infomercial but I managed 19 digital channels. Not too bad for the antenna I have and my location. Thanks for the tip. Edit: oh this is cute. No channel 7 or 62 but I get the Lansing affiliates. Good call.

Side note: Flagg might be right. Even here my WIOT reception is shoddy. Somehow I usually get a reliable reception here.

Colonel - I stand corrected; thank you! :)

Mega -- I believe both WWJ-TV and WXYZ are broadcasting at lower than normal power right now due to preparations relating to "repack" channel switches, which will occur in the first half of March. The channel switches themselves will be complete no later than March 13, but some stations may be broadcasting from auxiliary antennas for many weeks (even a few months) after that date.

I would recommend doing another rescan on March 14.

Getting 6 and 53 is great. Thank you again for the tip; I'll keep an eye out.

Brighton is hilly, allowing WIOT to reach that area. The flat land of the East Side was spotty, even before that translator.

Usually some tropo or an excellent receiver paired with an outdoor antenna was needed to be able to have any chance of picking up WIOT in Macomb County.

Brighton is about 60 miles from Toledo as the crow flies and is also much farther from WOMC's tower, which helps. Remember, part of WOMC's hybrid digital signal transmits on 104.5 MHz, and if I remember correctly, that signal uses the max power allowed for hybrid digital transmission (which I believe is -14 dB versus analog power, but I could be mistaken).

Upon hearing an overplayed, burnt out AC/DC tune, it appears WIOT is back to normal for now, at least receivable in my home at 23 and 96.

I’m on the fringe of the protected area (I think). It was gone even here, but back as of a week or so.
