Local 4 buyout packages

Post by Editorcj » Sat May 11, 2024 2:09 pm

Hearing on the street, WDIV has offered incredible buyout packages to employees with 25 years service and are 55 and over. 18 months pay plus extended benefit packages including a year of health insurance. A lot of familiar talent and key below the line people are taking it, deadline I hear is Friday.

The bill for the new set must have been higher than estimated.

.....including a year of health insurance.
Hopefully they don't have sticker shock when that runs out. Half way decent insurance will run $700 to over $1000 a month at that age (Over 55)
Not sure what the job market would be in that industry at that age. I'm guessing not good.

Right, I would not call that a great buyout package. Many probably keep working due to health insurance being so costly, and Medicare does not always pay much. Plus, a person needs to be a certain age before they can get that. If a person is past social security age plus they have a large nest egg, they probably leave.

The decision to take the buyout is a very personal one, it depends on a multiple of factors that include how close to 65 you are if not over, what any other job prospects you might have, how much time is left on your contract and would you be renewed if you stayed, how much do you have in your personal retirement accounts and finally how much fun you are still having at your job. For many the decision is an easy one, almost a no-brainer and for others it is a difficult one.

Either way ch 4 will look very different in a month.

Who’s 55 or older over there now on-air?

Top of my head guesses:
Devin Scillian
Bernie
Paula Tutman
Rod Maloni
Tim Pamplin
Mara McDonald (?) If I did the math right she’s in the ballpark.

Karen Drew is 52 or so. Did I miss anybody?
