The talk of Jose Feliciano reminds me of all the times Ron would make a Stevie Wonder/Indy 500 "blind leading the blind" reference.

A nice tribute show. And a record number of calls. Bringing to mind the line about the well-attended funeral for the much-loathed Hollywood mogul, Harry Cohn: "Give the people what they want, and they'll turn out for it!"

Momo - Totally agree; they did a fine tribute show indeed.

My accountant reference was a "tip of the hat" to the Buzzboard members.

He didn’t show up for work? A bit confused
I hope the authorities are listening. This timeline's a bit off.
the tweet was put up Thursday, probably just a slip of the tongue.
But how, then, did Martin learn of Ron's death (before his non-appearance at work)?

Regarding Ron and the Specs Howard School of Broadcasting, from Joe LaPointe's May 7, 1979 column in the Detroit Free Press: "Although he spent two weeks in a broadcast school, Ron's only brush with higher education was a Florida umpires' school 10 years ago."

So a beauty, er, broadcast school dropout? Thanks, Frank. I didn't see Ron as Specs Howard material.

Interesting that we heard stories of the Detroit Red Wings players twice(!) paying Ron's "tuition" for umpire school. More from Mr. LaPointe's May 7, 1979 column: "'Ron was living in the Cass Corridor,' says Jim Grandon, 37, a Tigers' season ticket holder who has known Cameron since they met in the lower deck bleachers in 1957. 'He was broke One weekend Ron existed on water and potato chips. I'd offer to buy him lunch and he wouldn't let me. He was embarrassed, I guess. But he borrowed $500 from me to go to umpires' school. Paid it all back, too.'"

Great tribute all!!

A little disappointed by some total lack of acknowledgement on the guest side side either with their socials or not calling in today, as well as a regular caller but job well done by the WPON crew.

No Kurt calling in it appears
He so ignored us so completely that I could see him not wanting to give us the satisfaction of hearing him one last time. Or, like Ron. maybe he doesn't do the likes of memorial services or tribute shows.

Ron was a lucky man. He was able to live to nearly 80 and making his way on that journey by working various jobs related to the sports world that he seemed to love. I thought that today’s tribute show was very respectful to his memory. More respectful to him than he was to those that passed that he did not care for. Some of those who participated in extolling Ron’s better qualities seemed to kind of allude to a flawed portion of his personality, but did not expound upon while keeping within the positive slant on Scoop’s life.

I was surprised to learn, like many of you, that Ron had attended Specs Howard SOB. He obviously paid little attention during his tenure there.
