Re: Ron Cameron
Alex, thanks for holding Ron accountable for his obvious anti U-M bias. Between the 10 dinners owed to Ron from JH and Bo firing his buddy Ernie, this just screams thru the radio. I find it funny with Ron hurling personal insults about how JH talks, like Ron is perfect. Your about the only person that can do that without Ron throwing a tantrum. Good show

Thanks again! I was thinking more insight would come from you. Wanted to mix it up then his usual1alexalway wrote: ↑Sun Jan 29, 2023 4:38 pmHe must've not known who was a free agent by that answer.radiofan1974 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 29, 2023 3:35 pmHey Alex who do you think the lions should hold on to of there own free agents?

Re: Ron Cameron
I kept wondering if Alex would correct Ron about the date of the Super Bowl, which Ron kept saying was next week. It's 2/12. So Ron will probably call Ray Scott in two weeks, and then find out the real date of the Super Bowl.
Re: Ron Cameron
Did you set up the interviews back then? I've been impressed with the variety of people you had on. Those interviews have some historical value now, because many of the people have died.1alexalway wrote: ↑Sun Jan 29, 2023 3:35 pmI do sometimes. I think Ron needs to stay on topic more often on the shows he does now.
Re: Ron Cameron
If i recall correctly Ron did the same thing last year.He still does not know the Super Bowl is 2 weeks after the conference championships.
Re: Ron Cameron
So you’re saying there’s a chance that Ray Scott might be on next Sunday?

Suggest not book. I'd try and get him to think of the time of year, current events, etc.Bobbert wrote: ↑Sun Jan 29, 2023 5:49 pmDid you set up the interviews back then? I did feel like back in the Alex Alway era of SportsTalk the podcasts were updated in a more timely manner, instead of today’s “not at all”!

Ron volunteers the Catholic League story. I suspect Ron's been dining off this tale for many decades now.Bobbert wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 10:35 amMidweek Memories

To Ron's obvious delight, Ron & his guest were each able to break the news of a death to the other. Ron, Putsy Caballero, along with Bob Miller & Curt Simmons, the last surviving Phillies from the '50 NL-winning team; Bob, Norm Swanson, a mid-century U-D basketball star. Ron seemed to be shocked at the very idea that Swanson, an octogenarian he saw a mere two years ago at Miller's home, could’ve died.
Swanson's obituary includes lots of photos, including one with Gordie Howe. I don't know if Bob Miller is pictured. Ron is not.

Re: Ron Cameron
In a fitting coda to the Avila era, Keith Law, in The Athletic, ranks the Tigers dead last, #30, in his ranking of the major-league teams’ farm systems:
"The new regime in Detroit faces a big challenge here, as very little has gone right for the Tigers’ farm system in recent years. From the 2016 through 2021 drafts, their top three picks by WAR to date are Tarik Skubal, Casey Mize … and John Schreiber, signed for $6,000 in the 15th round. Their international free-agent classes have been totally unproductive. And we haven’t seen many players get better once in the system over the last decade, whether they come in as reasonably polished players or not. Matt Manning might be the one big exception to that, as the Tigers did help him with his delivery when he had trouble throwing strikes, but he’s the outlier. There is still a decent bit of underdeveloped talent just lying around here, with the new player development group only in place for about a year, and there will be a lot of high draft picks to come. It’s lean times ahead in Detroit, unfortunately."
Try to spin this, Ron.

The NBA Referees Union apologized for a missed call on LeBron James. I wonder if Mr. Positive will bring that up with Ron this weekend?
