Can anyone explain why the station for no obvious reason chose to preempt the NBC Nightly News this evening?

I don't know what they ran, but channel 8 in GR didn't have nightly news on either. They had the impeachment hearings.

They wanted to get some local news in besides the hearings. 2 and 7 already had local news before 6:30.
