Good list, and yes, I voted. One film not listed and I believe to be more "essential" than a few on the list is the quirky 2005 drama Winter Passing starring Ed Harris, Zooey Deschanel, and Will Farrell. It takes place predominately in upstate Michigan, though I believe was shot in New Jersey.

This is completely hideous, but it was a Lifetime movie made locally in Traverse City.

I think a few should be further up the list, and it seems I have a few to watch. I've seen about 36 of these.

There is another one in post production coming out next year too...

In the mention of "Collision Course", they quoted Martin F Kohn.
Whatever happened to him?

Another I didn't see listed was the very slight and low-key indie film from a few years ago called Highland Park. It starred Billy Burke, Danny Glover, and also Parker Posey in a supporting role, but in a featured billing. You see shots of the iconic but abandoned MacGregor Library as well as a few other landmarks. The blue collar ambience and political machinations ring familiar, but the resemblances to the Highland Park in which I grew up and eventually left in my youth as part of the ubiquitous white flight end there. The theme centers around winning the lottery ( :?: ) and its effects on the participants. I can understand it not being on the list as I wouldn't consider it "essential".

As a former longtime Northern Michigan resident and fan of Ernest Borgnine, I've been wanting to see Barn Red, but haven't yet.

I'm not a movie buff and have only seen five of there films that I can recall. However, "Standing in the Shadows of Motown" is my favorite film and I treasure the DVD I have that's autographed by the surviving Funk Brothers. I also really enjoyed "The Rosary Murders".

A movie I don't see here is Super Sicker, filmed in Jackson. More info https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Sucker. Having never seen the movie, I'm not sure how good it is.

Also missed The Big Chill..... all that U-M clothing and football on the TV.

I also see that the Andy Hardy movie that had them coming to Detroit to see about an inheritance didn't make it either.

There should be some mention of all those old crime movies that reference Detroit. You know, the ones where Lefty just got in from Detroit, or the Big Guy just moved his operations to Detroit. Those movies say something about Detroit in the 1940s and 1950s.

Lefty probably a brother of Mack The Knife.
